I think I might actually be sick it is hurting so bad. I have taken my last rennie (gaviscon prescription still at gps as I did not get round to picking it up last week and now out of that too). I have tried drinking milk and it is not working. I am knackered and can't face laying down if it does not go away!

Suggestions are needed quick quick!

When are you next seeing your midwife? Gastric pain can be a sign of HELLP syndrome, which is a rare form of preeclampsia with atypical symptoms. The other signs are visual disturbances ( which appear like sparkles infront of your eyes), headaches, nausea, and a feeling of something not being right. YOu don't always get high BP or much protein in your wee early on with it. If you still have gastric pain PLEASE mention it to your midwife when you next see her.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/09/2009 10:19

Oh....I did not know that.

Have had some of those symptoms but put it down to tiredness and bit of stress (floaty things in front of eyes, headache) and have general unwellness and feelings of not being 'quite right' but had that for much of this pg!

Blood pressure usually good, last time was higher than usual, but not 'high'. No swelling though. Apart from the usual bit of swollen feet of an evening.

I am seeing the consultant on wednesday anyway, for scan and checkup so shall mention it to the midwife then. But I am sure its just normal third trimester tribulations!

Oh and nausea - i am the expert on that seeing as I have suffered from hyperemesis through much of this pregnancy and nausea is present often

Please mention it and ask about HELLP syndrome specifically. It might worth them giving you blood tests for platelets and iron.

I don't mean to worry you. however you sound similar to how i was in the last week of my pregnancy. I thnk actually it might be worth giving your midwife a call today. Do the indigestion remedies help your chest pain?

My story was that I had indigestion throughout my pregnancy, but it got unbearable in the last couple of weeks. I also had nausea, sparkles in front of the eyes, and tiredness but did not swell up at all. I also had a feeling of of it not being right. My BP was not that high. One night the chest pain became unbearable, called the night doctor and got told to go to A and E. I had +4 urine and bp of 240/140, I had an EMCS by GA as I was going in to multiple organ failure. Luckily DS and I are now fine, But HELLP is very often missed. MY midwfe dismissed my chest pain as indigestion becuase i didn't tell her about the nausea and visual disturbances becuase I just thought they were normal for late pregnancy.

Hope everything goes ok with the rest of your pregnancy, and that you just have a bad case of pregnancy indigestion.

grisette oh how frightening for you . Currently the rennie is not helping no, in fact I just took a coupke and now feel sick! But that could also be due to decorating and overdoing it!

The chest pain is quite clearly acid though, rather than general chest pain although I have had chest pain. I have been putting it all down to other circumstances in my life, this that and the other.

Maybe I will call for some advice, just in case, bit of reassurance won't hurt. I need to pop in to see gp for my bottle of gaviscon anyway, so might ask if gp will see me? Midwife not there atm, although I can call general advice line.

Go and see your GP/practice nurse or midwife, however is most easily accessible. Does your hospital have a day care unit?
Take a urine sample with you for testing. V good point re HELLP syndrome well made by Grisette .

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/09/2009 14:00

Just called gp for some advice, reception will get her to call me back.

I am sure its nothing, but worth checking seeing as I am a panicker atm and not feeling 100%.
Typical its our wedding anniversary and we are decorating. Or rather, DH is decorating and I am milling about being a bit useless

She said, 'its probably pregnancy related, as unfortunately sickness and indigestion can be par for the course, but we will want to see you just to make sure there is no urine infection or similar so pop along in the morning and we will check you over'. She also advised me in the meantime to ease the sickness to start taking the meds I had been prescribed as I have some left. She thinks this might help.

She then called back about 5 mins later - 'you are 32 weeks aren't you? I thought you were a little earlier than that, it would probably be a good idea for you to pop along and have us check your blood pressure today, and bring a sample with you if you are able' then she went to book an appt at 5pm, only to find the slot was booked - for me how weird is that?!!! Confused the hell out of me but hey, it means there was a slot there!

So, she thinks it is fine but will doubly check me to be sure.

Good luck, Pavlov, let us know how you got on [nosey].

Grisette · 21/09/2009 14:23

The chest pain does feel like the worst indigestion you've ever had, because its your liver not in you lungs. Epigastric pain is at the bottom of your ribcage/just above your bump.

Glad you have sought further advice, hope its not anything significant.

alypaly · 21/09/2009 14:24

you can buy it in a smaller quantity til you get your prescription

Grisette · 21/09/2009 14:25

Pleased you are having you bp checked. make sure you take a wee sample and ask specifically about HELLP syndrome being a possibilty...
good luck

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/09/2009 14:29

alypaly - I shall be getting a bottle this evening YEY! I have Rennie but I have been sick on that. Although it might not be because of that, I guess its association isn't it?
grisette thanks for the advice, I am sure it will be nothing, this pg has been plagued with pains here and there, sickness, discomfort which have all been a hassle but luckily nothing serious (apart from severe sickness up to around 16 wks then was medicated), so hopefully this is just another pg thing I will have to put up with for a few more weeks! But nothing wrong with getting some-one to say 'all is ok'

gastrocote is really good too if its not reflux.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/09/2009 14:57

i think it is reflux - its burning in my chest and making me vomit so presuming so. just had some lemonade and it feels a little better.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat ..poor you

Grisette · 21/09/2009 18:31

Are you beack yet OP?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/09/2009 19:23

Hey I am back! I have a UTI, which explains a lot actually - been putting much of the symptoms down to baby getting bigger, third trimester - such as sore back, cannot get comfy at night, really uncomfortable walking, especially down below, feeling like baby is kicking me a lot in the bladder, waking to go to the loo, loss of appetite I put down to indigestion.

GP said that this would cause vomitting and acid indigestion, and that I also have a fever! No wonder I felt like shit!

Have some antibiotics, but cannot take them til I give a sample for the hospital first thing in the morning - urine sample said UTI, symptoms say the same but gp wants hospital confirmation for some reason. But said to take the anitbiotics tomorrow after giving the sample anyway as she is pretty certain.

Thanks for the advice gisette on going to see gp. Lucky it is not serious, but could have been if I continued to ignore the symptoms!

Grisette · 21/09/2009 19:39

I'm really pleased it was nothing too serious, i hope you make a speedy recovery...

PacificDogwood · 21/09/2009 20:42

Oh good, Pavlov, as far as any illness in pregnancy goes UTI is a good one, lol. At least UTI is easily treatable.
Your GP will want to send a sample away to the lab before you start your antibiotics to get a culture result re what bug caused the problem and which antibiotics it is sensitive to. You can start your treatment as soon as you have week in a pot .

It sounds like you will feel better soon.
