Blood type??

Is anyone here a rhesus neg blood group? i had anti-d straight after birth with first 2 babies, but now they give the anti-d at 28 and 34 weeks aswell as after the birth, i only got told this a couple of weeks ago! im not good with needle's is it a 'quick job?' does anyone know has anyone had it yet? xxx

I had to have anti d, they gave it to me in my bum so I couldnt see the needle (I am a needle wimp too) a[aret from soem slight discomfort as the administer the anti d, its over in a flash and doesnt hurt afterwards.

Hi, I am rhesus neg, and had the anti d after first baby. It was fine, in the bottom, a little sore but over in a flash. Luckily since found out that dh is rhesus neg as well, so havent had to have anti d with subsequent pregnancies (would have alot of explaining to do if baby was anything other than 0 neg )

Hmmm thats true pinkmama! lol!! never thought about dp's blood group being neg too!!! (sorry im pretty dumb at times!!) just asked him and he's not sure so i may escape the 20ft needle in my butt yet!!! hehehe xxx

Hi i had anti d throughout my pg and after the birth, had it in my bum too.................it's ok though.

in bum, you can't see the needle, over and done with very quickly. DD was AB+ so had to have it after birth.

Strange thing was - I bled for the first 12 weeks and it stop as soon as I had the anti d - midwife said it was a coincidence - but was it?

I'm RH Neg too & 2 of my friends are.We had blood taken at 28 wks to see if we needed anti d,but none of us did.We all needed it after the babies were born though-mine was in my thigh this time as opposed to my backside & didn't hurt half as much!

I had anti d at 14 weeks and 28 weeks and after birth. All the time in the thigh and it hurt like hell. Have heard that it hurts less if had in the bum as more flesh

AnotherHelen-no,you don't have to have them done at 28 & 34 wks if you don't want too.

I had anti-D after each of my boys was born. I had the injection in my bum - probably because with such a large target they couldn't miss!

I was tested for antibodies during the pregnancies but didn't need the anti-D until after the birth.

I'm rhesus negative too, and have had two anti-D jabs in my time. They're really fine - nothing to worry about. Of course you don't have to have them (or any other medical treatment you don't want) but you might find it useful to read up the latest guidelines and evidence first - I think you can find this on the RCOG website.

anotherhelen - it was strange - but then so am i I probably read more into it as had miscarriage 6 months previously and got it into my head that my body was rejecting the baby - the thoughts that go through your head when pregnant - well mine anyway

AnotherHelen, I only had anti-D postnatally with my first pg (and after a m/c) but with second pg my health authority had changed their policy, due to the 2002 NICE guidelines which recommend antenatal administration as well as postnatal. I had it at 28 and 34 weeks and after the birth as well. I always had it in my bum - apparently it's more effective if given in the arm but maybe less painful in the bum. Anyway, I found some of the injections OK but some did hurt. I think it depends on the skill of the person giving the jab.
