scary bleeding

am 9 weeks pregs and just had a massive bleed this afternoon. it lasted about 2 hours and soaked 2 pads. it was much more than spotting. but it's stopped now, and there were no clots or pains. does it mean a miscarriage? i miscarried back in jan and am now in bed feeling totally upset and anxious.

please advise if you can.. has this happened to anyone, can it be ok?

it can be ok yes, i know someone who had a massive bleed and it was fine, i think part of the placenta had come away and there was a big bleed from it. then she had more bloodloss for a while after as some blood had remained trapped in there.

i would go to EPU or something though if i were you, get scanned

You should always contact someone about any bleeding during pregnancy. Hope everything goes OK.

It can be OK, but you need to get a scan done. Call your GP he can refer you to the local hospital's early pregnancy unit for a scan. The absence of clots and pain is a good sign. I had bleeding on and off throughout the first trimester in both my pregnancies and it was harmless, but it should always be checked out. Best of luck!

Oh you poor thing ; I had two mc's between having my DS1 and my DD and early pregnancy is such a fraught and stressful time.

I echo, thisisyesterday; it can be OK and there is lots of evidence of that on here and in RL; my SIL who was pregnant with twins bled on and off through her whole pregnancy. You really should get checked out though, especially given you have had a MC already. Some EPUs will take a self referral although some need a referral from your GP.

Hard I know, but try not to worry and call the GP or your EPU first thing in the morning.

I had lots of bleeding throughout my pregnancy and fortunately for me was always fine. However, I always got it checked out every time it happened and I think you should phone the midwives and, as Bumbling says, go in for a scan.

by the way do they still recommend bed-rest for people who've had bleeding or is that old-fashioned?

My obstetrician said it wouldn't make any difference - just do what you're comfortable with. Obviously I wouldn't go running a marathon!

I was told to rest by my GP but the EPU said it wouldn't make a difference, although it couldn't do any harm.

There is a wonderful support thread on here for women pregnant after a miscarriage, in the pregnancy section. It got me through my pregnancy with my DD and again with my DS2 (that worry never wuite leaves you)

Just had a small bleed; am 11+2 - have 12-week scan on Wednesday anyway. had a bleed earlier at 7 weeks and went to a&e, had scan a few days later, all was fine... should I just hang on till Wednesday (doubt they'd do anything different anyway) or do I need to tell someone? Also WTF could be causing it? No one in my family has had bleeds (except for MCs) and my pg with DD was without issue.
