Would you eat mozzarella 4 days past its date, if you were 32 weeks pregnant??

I have asked this as a hijack on the 'pasta bake' thread but am still can't decide. Just about to layer the bake now....

yes if it smelled ok - when mozarella goes off it takes on a fizzy almost alcoholic nature so you would know if it was dodgy.

oh yes, just read you're going to cook it so yes of course. I have a mozarella in the fridge dated 16th august, I'm going to do the sniff test in a bit and if it's ok it will go on my spaghetti in a bit.

I did them in separate dishes. (dh is eating his later when he's home from football training)

You did the right thing - I would eat if not pregnant, but would not do so if pregnant. Not worth the risk IMO.

Sniff test means nothing I'm afraid.
Pathogenic bacteria - the ones that make you sick - don't cause changes that you can detect. Spoilage bacteria cause changes that you can detect, but they're not necessarily going to make you ill.
