Any mums-to-be in SE16 or nearby?

Any mums-to-be in SE London wanting to meet other women in the same position?

I am the first person in my group of friends to be pregnant and sometimes miss talking/having a laugh with other women who are experiencing pregnancy in all its (sometimes dubious) glory - it is beginning to sink in that this may be something I am not able to go through so gracefully

Hi,

I'm in SE22, East Dulwich. Sounds like we're in a similar position - I'm the first of my friends to have a baby and although they've been very patient listening to my whining I think I need pregnant friends!

Amy

Miia · 21/08/2009 12:30

Excellent - sounds like you're not too far away. How far gone are you now? I am now 17, nearly 18 weeks gone and so far being pregnant has been totally overrated - suffered from nausea until week 16 but feeling fine now. Fingers crossed!!

You can get in touch with me by clicking on the contact poster link, the email link should work

Gidders · 21/08/2009 14:05

I'm one week behind you then - 17 weeks on Saturday. I agree with you about overrated, I cannot understand people who say they enjoy pregnancy. But my sickness is getting better by the day, so maybe I'll be glowing soon.

I will CAT you, just need to subscribe first

Miia · 24/08/2009 13:56

Cool, look forward to that. Also if there are any others please do get in touch - more the merrier, I am sure.

Hi - I am not far from you - Herne Hill/Tulse Hill area. Can I join please?! Also the first of any of my friends to be pregnant, and also slightly nervous that maternity leave may be a lonely place at the minute!

Miia · 24/08/2009 17:07

Katster - brilliant - welcome, more the merrier. How far gone are you now? I've reached week 18 today and Gidders (or Amy) is just behind me at 17 weeks.

katster37 · 24/08/2009 18:36

Thanks, Mila! Am just over 27 weeks and feeling more scared than ever! Are you both giving birth / having antenatal care at King's?

Miia · 24/08/2009 19:01

I am currently due to give birth at St. Thomas' hospital, that's where I have had my scans etc. Going in for my 21 week scan in mid September.

I think the reality is that the baby will come out somehow, so it is not really a question of not coping, however we feel at the end there will be a baby. I was freaking out the other day about not really having a clue about babies so have ordered a couple of books from amazon... maybe that'll help

Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl?

OP posts:
katster37 · 25/08/2009 14:56

Someone at work gave me a couple of baby books.... I have not yet been brave enough to open them though although I suppose I should!!

We actually didn't want to know the sex, but the sonographer blurted it out - DH was really annoyed! Anyway, we are having a little boy. Are you going to find out?

Miia · 25/08/2009 15:05

Yep, we really want to know - it will help with bonding and picturing us with either a baby boy or baby girl. Different thing though whether we will tell other people or keep it as a secret. Also, we pretty much would know a name for a girl whereas for a boy, not a clue.

We haven't bought any baby stuff yet, keep on thinking that we will do so after the scan - I think the reality is that it would make it feel so REAL, staring at prams etc - and quite frankly, I wouldn't even know where to start...!

OP posts:
katster37 · 25/08/2009 18:07

We haven't told anyone in RL either - pretending we don't know!! I have bought a couple of blue things, but felt really, really naughty!! Not sure why, but they are all hidden away. Just painted the spare room this weekend and still can't believe a little person will be coming to live with us in a few weeks! How long 'til your scan? I loved that scan, although was v nervous beforehand, but baby looked so 'babylike'! Have you felt much movement yet?

Miia · 25/08/2009 19:07

My scan is in mid September so a few weeks to go. I am looking forward to it as haven't really felt anything move yet, or if I have, it always turns out to be gas!

Have you looked at any cots yet? I was just wondering if there are any which actually can be used as changing tables as well... maybe wishful thinking but would like to maximise the space... ah, so many things to think about.

Got my mum's 60th birthday party this weekend so going away for a long weekend but maybe the following weekend could be good for a quick coffee or something? I must say this reminds me a little bit of type of internet dating

OP posts:
katster37 · 26/08/2009 10:42

Hee hee at internet dating!! Yes, is a bit strange, but I suppose is a good way of meeting people you wouldn't ever normally meet! I am away the weekend of 5/6th but free the one after?

Re cots: we got given a bumper load of stuff from a friend who is conveniently (!) moving to New York and wanted to minimise the stuff she took with her, so we have got a cot already. To be honest I haven't looked at it properly, but I did see in John Lewis you can get some kind of 'planks' (!) which go on the top of the cot but can be removed, if that makes sense. Def not room in our flat for a separate changing table so was prob going to get one- will see if I can find a link for one. Right try this: here

Miia · 26/08/2009 11:15

Aaah, result!! Thanks!

Will go and have a look at that in real life to figure out how it'll work, i.e. do you take it off all the time or do you just leave it on and will the baby therefore be in a little cave. Lol.

Weekend of 11/12th September sounds good to me, you can get in touch with me either through that contact poster link (think you may have to amend your options so that emails come through) or failing that just by emailing me at [email protected].

I don't know why but for some reason have a very strong boy feeling at the moment. Also noticed that DH keeps on referring to the baby as he.

Hi ladies,

Sorry, I have been offline for a few days!

I am at Kings as well, although I am hoping for a homebirth. I'm having a nightmare getting a local midwife though - they are booked solid for feb and at the moment i'm with the Kings midwives. They are very nice, but not very forthcoming with help on arranging a homebirth. But there's plenty of time.

My scan in early October. I'm definately finding out the sex, although I am also getting strong boy vibes. I just can't imagine a girl. I have also just started buying things - well, I bought some stripy trousers from mothercare because I thought they were cute. Prams are so confusing though! and expensive.

Can I cheekily invite myself for a coffee as well? That weekend is good for me

katster37 · 26/08/2009 17:56

Yes definitely! Would be fab to all meet up. Do you want to send an email to Miia and she can fwd it on to me?
Hmm the midwives I am with are really pushing me to have a homebirth, but I am not sure I am confident enough to, at the minute. Love the sound of it though. I have found King's to be very thorough, although the waiting times for scans was horrendous - think our appointment for the nuchal scan was at 9.30 and we didn't actually get in until 1pm! The anomaly one was better but then I had to go back because they baby was lying on his front and the sonographer couldn't see the heart properly!
Anyway really looking forward to coffee in a couple of weeks!

Miia · 31/08/2009 19:33

Hi there girls,

sorry I have been offline for a while, been away for my mum's 60th birthday - back to London tomorrow. I will forward Amy's message on so we can all figure out where and when is good to meet up.

Started feeling baby's movements - he (v. strong boy feelings here too) seems to do a fair bit of jumping about every time I eat or drink and taking off and landing seemed to be good causes for somersaults. Such a weird feeling...

Hello Belgianbun - by all means. More the merrier!

If you're keen too, we're planning to meet up this coming Sunday around lunch time I believe. You can contact me through the contact poster link and we can set it all up. I will probably post the time and date here as well - we're thinking of London Bridge area at the moment.

It will probably be a very cute sight - a group of women with bumps!
