Scans: when they 'can't really see the sex' does that mean....

it's more likely to be a boy or girl? With my first pregnancy the meat and two veg were as clear as day at 21 weeks. I've had a scan with this one at 18 weeks and 23 weeks and neither sonographer has been able to tell for sure, but both suspect it's a girl.

They've told me not to go out and buy pink and redecorate the nursery, but....shall I go out and buy pink and redecorate the nursery?

prob neither wanted to say 100% incase they were wrong so comereing their backs maybe?
sometimes it is hard ot tell if the baby does not make it easy!

I had a good look at the screen and I couldn't tell, but I'm rubbish at seeing most stuff by ultrasound. With my son it was very very obvious. I guess with a boy it's more certain, but with a girl, well, it could still be a boy hiding his bits couldn't it!

It could still be a boy with the bits hidden. Although I would think on balance, if they both suspect it is a girl, it probably is. I'd buy some girl babygros (not too many) but keep the nursery yellow or some sort of neutral colour! Easier to send a couple of babygros to the charity shop than to repaint the room .

They couldn't be sure when I was having dd..... they refused to make any comment at 20 weeks and at 28 weeks the sonographer said it wasn't clear but she thought it might be a girl but not to go out buy pink etc. DD arrived 12 weeks later

This time they were very sure it was a boy and it was very obvious from what I could see (cue lots of inappropriate comments from DH about penis size that the poor sonographer had probably heard a zillion times before )

How frustrating! I think I'd have to pay to have another scan! Maybe it is a girl as you've had two scans and boys bits couldn't be seen! They should have said they couldn't tell the sex rather then it could be a girl!

We didn't want to know the sex at the 20 week scan and the doctor said it was a good job as he couldn't tell anyway. Turned out to be a boy.

I can see that it might be a boy hiding his bits, but to hide them on two separate occassions would be unreasonably shy of him I think. On the other hand, I had a good squizz and I really couldn't see the three lines indicating a, er, fanjo.

I think I might have to pay and have another scan when I'm a bit further along, even if it's just to reassure me that I'm having at least one or the other!

Why don't you pay for a gender scan? they're only £65

I think I will because I just can't stand the suspense dammit. I'm the kind of person who likes to read the last page of a book first. My husband thinks he has super powers because he guessed the right sex with our first baby and he 'feels' that this one is a girl (and he's taken the sonographers' comments as conclusive evidence that he is right). I'm going to have to find out for sure or I'm going to get snowballed up in his 'powers of perception' nonsense.
