Do most people poo when giving birth? (sorry if TMI).

Just wondered if this was true? A few people have told me they didn't but am wondering if they just don't want to admit it as I have read about this. I'm a first timer with baby due this week. I'm planning on giving birth in a birthing pool with my partner so wanted to know what the liklihood is? Obviously am a bit worried about my poo floating on top of the water if this is the case!

That horror story was with ds

With dd, following my first episiotomy and a fairly dense epirdural which left me temporarlily paralysed the lovely fucking awful midwifes refused to clean me up and dp had to clean my entire blood soaked fanjo region

I always knew he loved me after doing that and still wanting to have sex with me again

lola0109 · 19/08/2009 10:52

This is so funny, i was totally paranoid beforehand about this happening but my mum, who is a midwife assured me that they are very discreet about covering it up. So I wouldn't worry about it.

My most cringeworthy moment was when my mum (she delivered dd) called in the consultant and the consultant told me off for making too much noise and not focussing on pushing. I burst into tears and said "mum that woman just told me off". 28 years of age, how embarrassing! In my defence I had been awake for about 48 hours

But as with everyone else, at that moment you couldn't care less!

katster37 · 19/08/2009 11:04

Oh my god I am so scared about this!! Due in November with first, and DH is a bit of a prude! As in, during the 11 years we have been together, neither of us has even 'passed wind' in front of each other so the thought of actually DOING A POO is really scaring me!!!!

Tidey · 19/08/2009 11:11

It doesn't happen to everyone, but it is quite likely. But you will be far more concerned with other things, and you won't give a damn.

Morloth · 19/08/2009 13:04

I did, nobody (least of all you!) cares. Happens all the time.

diddl · 21/08/2009 14:43

I didn´t with first but did with second.

Really?
Seriously, if he´s that delicate, perhaps he´d better not be there for the birth.
When my hubby´s on the toilet I frequently wander in for a chat-he can´t get away then !!

Can I nominate LilyMolly for permanent banning frm MN.

I had forgotten that absolute horror of the stitching tampon until you reminded me.

gemgem83 · 22/08/2009 09:46

yep i pooped!!! but who cares, i know i didn't i had more things to worry about then if i was pooing.

before i gave birth i did worry about this, but when you are there and it happens no one cares its just one of those things.

if you are worried you can have a clear out before. Some people try enemas.

Trust me if you do, you wont care

MrsChemist · 22/08/2009 23:09

I'm having such misery with constipation at the moment (I have to take iron tablets) that if I did poo, I would be just a little bit happy that I managed to go at all.

Every cloud

MrsMc82 · 23/08/2009 06:36

Oh my god should not have read this thread.... I'm in firm (and very happy) denial about what giving birth will entail and this is so scary its made me cry.....And laugh a bit too x

I didn't but my body had a bit of a clear out before labour and I barely ate anything the whole time I was in labour. DH of a friend of mine posted some pics of his DS straight after birth....I mean come on...and he was clearly covered head to toe in poo. So I guess she did...

fuzzywuzzy · 18/07/2016 18:33

Pushing a baby out is exactly like when you go for a pooh, I really wish I'd been told that before I had my first.

Dd1 I think I might have but I was in labour for sixteen hours and she was not budging.

Dd2 nope I didn't. Your body does have a clear out before.

Don't let the thought you might pooh prevent you from pushing effectively.

Ops kids are probably in the shadow cabinet by now, zombie thread resurrected by a troll.

Ditsy4 · 18/07/2016 18:47

Oh well some of the descriptions made me LOL! :)

LaPharisienne · 18/07/2016 18:52

MrsMc82 and Katster37 ... Are you serious?! Pooing in labour is scary? Of all aspects of labour THIS is the one you're worried about?!!!!

As everyone else says once you're in labour anything coming out of you other than a baby just won't register.

eastcoastmum2014 · 19/07/2016 14:18

I did with my DD, I also had a spinal block so I did a few times after without noticing. The nurses and midwives are very good at cleaning it up without you really knowing, they are used to it! My DP was so white faced from my (minimal) blood loss that I think the poo was the last thing he cared about 😂 at the end of the day you are so focussed on what you need to do you really don't notice or care! I'm pregnant again now so all the poo and blood didn't put my DP off 😉

chattygranny · 20/07/2016 10:39

I had three without and 1 I did (no 2) I told the midwife i needed to and she replied it was just the baby's head (it does feel so similar as you know) anyway it was whisked away and my DH didn't even notice. I told a friend who had given birth in the same hospital a few days before and she had gone into ketosis in labour and said there was poo up the walls which made me realise that nothing you can show them would shock them. A nurse friend once said to me that poo and blood to her were like ink to a someone in an office, which is comforting!

SausageDogGeorge · 20/07/2016 12:04

haha - some of these posts are really making me laugh!! Not sure if I did or didn't but can definitely agree that you will leave with very little dignity!! I started crying and trying to get off the bed & get dressed - i insisted that i'd had enough and was going home.......minutes before DS head was crowning! funny!

Porcupinetree · 21/07/2016 09:24

I actually didn't, there wasn't anything left!
But...
There are a lot worse things that can happen in labour to be honest.

Porcupinetree · 21/07/2016 09:26

Oh my DD pooed loads tho, she was actually stained green.
