Bonding or bonkers? Do you talk to your bump?

I find myself saying 'Are you alright in there??' and apologising if I sneeze and jolt my bump

Bonding! Most definitely! I talk and stroke my bump, especially now I can feel the bub move!

muddle78 · 17/08/2009 18:09

i am constantly talking and singing nonsence to my bump .i often nag bumpy(baby's inutero name) to wriggle or kick as im very scared when he doesnt move much . i fell over the other day and was apologising profusely out loud to 'bumpy' lmao

SheWillBeLoved · 17/08/2009 18:10

Don't feel bonkers, I miss talking to my bump so much! I still feel slightly upset now whenever DD has hiccups, as I remember always asking if she was okay when she had them inside me

SheWillBeLoved · 17/08/2009 18:11

I should add - I still do ask if she's okay, I just miss the feeling

MamaLazarou · 17/08/2009 19:49

I talk to it all the time - if I get stressed about something, I stop and tell my bump that there is nothing to worry about.

becksydee · 18/08/2009 09:22

i quite often talk to it when i'm in the bath, not about anything specific, just nonsense really oh, and i ask the baby to cooperate with the nice doctor/midwife when they're trying to measure its heart rate but it keeps moving away from the doppler! (as it seems to like doing, little monkey)

arolf · 18/08/2009 09:50

yup, always talking to my bump - as does DP (now - he didn't for a while, but he's got over his inhibitions a bit!). I'm always telling my baby how much I'm looking forward to meeting him, and asking him to kick me occasionally just to let me know he's in there (although I imagine I'd notice him leaving if he wasn't in there...)

my midwife talks to the bump too, telling him to behave for her I think it's nice!

mogend77 · 18/08/2009 10:36

Yes I do. And at the mo I am getting my husband to talk to my bits basically in an attempt to get her to turn her head downwards (she is lying consistently transverse, tricksy little minx).

valbona · 18/08/2009 12:12

yes, increasingly ... sometimes serious chats, sometimes loopy nonsense songs (need to make sure no-one's listening). and DH has started to have quiet words with it most evenings - although he always puts on a very deep rumbly voice so I hope s/he isn't scared rigid.

BikeRunSki · 18/08/2009 12:14

Oh yes, I did. If I was out walking with my iPod, I used to tuck one of my headphones into my waistband for him too.

ErikaMaye · 18/08/2009 12:20

All the time DP will say either "Kick for Daddy!" or "Stop jumping on Mummy's bladder" as appropriate as well

mumsiebumsie · 18/08/2009 12:30

Wish I could do it but can't - find it sooo embarrassing. Hope baby doesn't suffer for it

NewbeeMummy · 18/08/2009 12:34

I do all the time, but my OH has been doing it a lot longer than I have, I found it a bit odd at first. "Bumpzilla" (as she's currently known) will quite often respond to my OH's voice which makes him go all "funny" it's quite sweet to watch really

Although it is obvious she's going to be a complete little daddies girl

BumptiousandBustly · 18/08/2009 12:34

Not only do I talk to bump, I make DH sing to it as well!

generalunrest · 18/08/2009 13:17

Lol NewbeeMummy my DH calls the bump 'sproglette' so it's not just bonding for us then! I don't think I'll try making him sing to it though, he's got an awful singing voice, don't want to scare the little mite :D

I have to check myself in the supermarket valbona and make sure I'm not seemingly nattering on to myself

I ask mine to give 'mummy a kick' if it's been a bit quiet. I also play a musical toy to it at night time, hoping that it'll find it settling after it's been born... that's the theory anyway!!

I also get my OH to tell if off for being naughty.

ErikaMaye · 18/08/2009 16:42

Ohhh VAB that's an interesting idea...
