Im 15 weeks pregnant and wondering what other mums to be are eating as everyone goes on about healthy eating and getting your 5 a day when your pregnant.

I have struggled with my diet due to morning sickness, no appetite, constipation etc etc.

I eat healthy ish but really dont get 5 a day and would like to know what other peoples typical diet is?

I have to eat v healthily due to diabetes... but some days all i want is icecream and pickles yuk yuk

you could sneak some things into your day that qualify for the 5-a-day rule and you and your baby will be all the healthier if you can: half a tin of baked beans counts as 1 (yes, really!); alot of tinned/fresh supermarket soups count as one, see the tins, especially veg ones; a glass of any fruit juice -or veg juice if you like any of those, like tomato juice; a fruity chewy bar such as 'nak'd' or loads of others from holland & barret (or presumably any health food shop); handful, about 6 grapes is 1 of the 5-a-day(easy to get down quick!); have you tried a sweet potato? sooo yummy baked or roasted, takes half the time of an average potato to cook as well & they have 5 times the nutrients than 'normal' tatties; you could drop some berries or a sliced banana into your cereal; 2 tspns of peas or sweetcorn count as one... you don't have to panic, we're all doing our best in the face of sickness or cravings or extreme hunger!! and sometimes a little 'bit of what you fancy' (icccccccccecreeeeeeeam) will do you good in that it will get you through a bad day!!

When i was pregnant with DD all i wanted was fruit or skittles, opal fruits etc and so many of my friend were the same way.
This time round i was drawn to fruit at the start but now 16 weeks and for the past couple of weeks its been pickled onions, sausage rolls, crisps and cheese. Hopefully it will be a boy (just so one of each)

my diet sucks, i am trying to improve now morning sickness has gone but really struggle. get hungry so quickly so often just eat junk. only up side is i have a banana while i a waiting for junk to be ready.

in have cheese sauce on everything at the mo forgot cauliflower and broccolli cheese isn't complete junk.

raindroprhyme · 06/08/2009 21:34

as for cravings i craved sweet for both DS's pregnancies and have become savoury tastic this pregnancy. was hoping that meant it was a girl

BexJ78 · 06/08/2009 21:37

i generally eat a fairly balanced diet, but tonight since having my tea have eaten one and a half toffee crisps and half a packet of fizzy percy pig tails (they are very nice BTW!!) and have had three mini pork pies in the last two days, plus a pasty and a bakewell tart as well as a wrap for lunch. i just can't help myself, but am eating lots of fruit too. just generally eating lots, but trying to make sure i go for a walk every day and drink lots of water...if i am not careful and going to be a very big mama!!!

bubblesincambridge · 07/08/2009 09:46

Fizzy percy pig tails???!!! They must be new! I'm off to M&S...

MrsBadger · 07/08/2009 10:06

last time I was at this stage of pregnancy it was a filthy freezing February, I felt utterly awful and for a month or two I ate almost nothing but toasted stuff dripping in butter - bagels, teacakes, toast, fruit bread, crumpets - with a occasional break for cake and doughnuts.

I was fine, dd was fine, I was back in my jeans at 6wks

This time I am slavering over soft fruit
I am ashamed to type how much I spent on 'perfectly ripe' preimuim white-fleshed nectarines in M&S yesterday
but they were so good

eat what you fancy while you are feeling rubbish, plenty of time to be healthy later.

BexJ78 · 07/08/2009 19:42

They are new bubblesincambridge, and they are on offer at mo with other percy pigs! very exciting and very nice!!

Bumping this old thread as I'm obsessing about this at the moment!

Pregnant with no 1 and used to have a pretty healthy 80% vegetarian diet.

Am 6 weeks pregnant and all I want are crackers and bananas. And sometimes, yoghurt and toast.

Please tell me I will fancy vegetables again in my second trimester!

CAKE.[GRIN]

notnowbernard · 05/02/2010 16:28

Short answer: anything I can get my hands on

Am ravenous

Will be like a house by August

Bumperlicious · 05/02/2010 16:44

Fizzy haribo, cocopops, tea with 2 sugars, oven chips and chicken dippers - my husband can't believe his luck! He would much rather have oven chips and chicken dippers than my lovingly prepared tomato sauce with pasta, and right now so would I!

Lemon is meant to help with MS, if you like that sort of thing (and I do) try fresh lemon in water, vitamins and the same relief that fizzy sweets give you. That's about as close to my 5 a day that I am getting. Unless tomato sauce on pizza counts!

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/02/2010 17:09

All I want is carbs and I second the poster who said she's reliving her childhood. I'm eating cereals, marmite on toast and little yoghurts.

Clearly this is why pregnant women take folic acid and other supplements, cos we aint getting it from our food!

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/02/2010 17:10

Meant to say bumberlicious - I love tea too but government advice is no more than 2 mugs a day so I've switched to caffiene free teabags, tastes just as nice.

Bumperlicious · 05/02/2010 19:56

I've only drunk decaf for years anyway, so it's no bother to me. Though actually I have a hankering for a lot of fruit/herbal teas at the moment, ginger and lemon, peppermint, a 'recharge' mix.

Have just polished off half of DH's packet of cheese and onion crisps, normally I can take or leave crisps.

I hate this at the moment, I can't stand not knowing from one day to the next what I will eat. It makes life very awkward and expensive - I keep having to make supermarket dashes to get whatever it is that I can stomach that day.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 06/02/2010 17:16

Not a lot - am miserable

Am not as sick as with the other two (only three or four times a day this time - woohoo) but I have absolutely no appetite. Anything I look at turns my stomach but strangely I am absolutely starving hungry.

Its also got to be psychological on some level as the other night I desperately wanted a chicken chow mein from the take away. I cried when DH tipped it out of the container onto my plate because it would taste different

Am sitting here trying to work out what I want for dinner tonight and the absolute only thing I want is spaghetti carbonara - but from a restaurant - a very specific restaurant which will take half an hour to drive to and will cost me £13 but they do take away

DH will kill me as I will then no doubt be sick

featherH · 08/02/2010 17:21

Peppapig You've made me smile for the first time today! I feel exactly the same as you - I feel better when I eat but nothing tempts me. I'm also crying over the slightest thing. So glad Im not on my own
