Im a bit vain and paranoid and this is a piddly question compared to most BUT what should I have put on by now if my BMI was 25 (just over normal going into overweight catagory), Im 17 weeks PG. After spying myself in a huge nasty mirror in a shop today I realised im carrying the baby in my thighs and bum. I did what im trying to aviod - I weighed myself and ive put on 7lbs, seems a lot so early. I put on 3.5 stone in first PG and being only 5'2 I struggled badly at the end and had high blood pressure and swelling. I really don't want to be like that this time or Id not be able to look after my 2 yr old DS properly. Does anyone know the answer to this? (Apart from stay away from the bickies fat arse)!!

I've never put on weight before... it is a bit hard to deal with at first but as someone else said, I'll worry about it afterwards.

It comes off as easily as it goes on, right?

Right?

Bevlin.

Putting on weight does take getting used to Trellism but as this is my 2nd pregnancy I'm less bothered this time. Is it your first?

I know in 10wks time after the birth, I'll lose a stone instantly, gain a gorgeous newborn and have humungous (for me anyway!) breastfeeding boobs- yay!

Just keep rubbing in the bio-oil in an attempt to keep stretch marks to a minimum.

I tend to get water retention towards the end too leaving me with a lovely, puffy looking face.

Bevlin, I find I can put more weight in the first trimester because of the feeling sick and so tired and food being the only thing that helps. I don't think 7lbs is much at 17 weeks, don't forget you have a growing placenta, more blood, little baby etc.

If you feel relatively normal now, (ie. not sick) then get back to eating healthily, loads of fruit and veg, good carbs and protein, water to drink, or caffeine free tea/coffee. Have your treats in moderation. I bet you get lots of exercise already running around after a 2yr old. I know I do with my 18mth old DS.

Tee hee - you guys are making me laugh!

I agree it is a bit hard to deal with, espeically as have no experience of this, it being my first. However, I suppose we'll just have to suck it up and hope, a la Trellism that it comes off again as easily. Right?!

PS I asked my (nicer) midwife and said I felt like I was putting on quite a lot rapidly and she said bump is normal and not showing much and I don't look like I have put loads on so she isn't worried at all and has no idea why I have put on 15lbs, other than that my body needs to. They don't even weigh me where I go for my checkups!

Good luck everyone
