ketones in urine - can anyone explain the significance please?

i went for my 35 wk check - am on weekly checks due to GD and polyhaydramnios - on thurs. there were ketones in my urine - what does that mean exactly?

Hi, as PP say. Ketones are not necessarily about poor blood sugars or control. I am Type 1 Diabetic so do test for them at home aswell. Sometimes if you have had a high fat meal there can be ketones in your blood or you haven't drunk enough water and all the other reasons people have said. If they didn't keep you in, it sounds like there was much ketones in your blood, anything below 0.6 isn't something to worry about. If they didn't keep you in for testing then it surely was just a small amount and I wouldn't worry.
