3 days overdue, shall I accept a sweep?

Title says it all really! Was due on the 18th by my scan dates with my first (due 11th by my LMP)

Midwife said last week that if I still hadn't made any progress by tomorrow, then they would offer me a sweep. I don't know if I want it though - part of me wants to let her come when she's ready to, and part of me is wondering whether I should go by my LMP dates which would make me almost 2 weeks overdue, and take the sweep.

Help Genuinely at a loss as to what to do. No real signs of labour starting, just feeling like I've been given a good kick in my pubic bone

Experiences of sweeps/being overdue/getting things going much appreciated

it's exciting though isn't it!?
go to the park and have a go on the swings/slide- i did that with dd2 and she literally fell out the next day...

Looks like I won't get the chance to be offered another sweep - had pretty bad period pain type back ache since last night which has gotten worse as the nights gone on, and has now got me out of bed at this ungodly hour (which is soon to be considered a lie in!)

40+7 today. Excited but absolutely bricking it let's hope she doesn't change her mind now and turn back!

How exiting, good luck with it all.

Much better to have a sweep and go into labour naturally than to be induced!

I had a sweep yesterday morning and have been having contractoins (Ithink?!) all night. I'm still not convinced it's the real thing though as they are quite manageable and also quite low down not high up as I thought 'real' ones would be... but they've been around 9 mins apart but seem slightly more frequent now...

Good luck Shewillbeloved, hope it all happens spontaneously!
(and to migola too!)

Any news yet?

SheWillBeLoved · 27/07/2009 15:38

Nothing yet starting to feel quite frustrated now. The worst I'm getting is back pains now and again, that wear off quicker than they start. I thought I had my term +10 appointment today, but it's tomorrow. Might accept the sweep they'll be offering this time!

So will you be 40 + 11 if you have the sweep tomorrow? Let us know if you go for it or not. I think I might.

Ceolas · 28/07/2009 10:10

At this stage I think I'd accept a sweep. I know that downhearted feeling when you feel like you'll be pregnant forever. Don't despair, you will be holding your baby soon

SheWillBeLoved · 28/07/2009 10:16

I'm 40 + 10 today nappy. I'm going to accept the sweep. As much as I'd prefer to let her come when she's ready, I can't see it being any time soon, and I don't want to go in for a medical induction without having tried a sweep first!

Just dreading getting the sweep, and having nothing but Braxton Hicks that fade off after a few hours! Appointment is at 2.30 so I'll pop back on when we're home and let you know how it went

Good luck, and remember to do your breathing. You've still got 4 days before real pressure by the medics might start, and that's plenty of time .x

Ah balls. Went for my term + 10 appointment today, baby is fine but there is no measurable amount of fluid around her. Induction booked for 7.30pm tomorrow, but I have to go in for another CTG trace tonight at 8pm, and was advised to ask whether they could induce me tonight instead. Trying so hard not to google the effects of no fluid..! Sweep didn't work as my cervix was tucked too far behind the babies head.

Explains my tiny bump anyway.. just worried sick now about how long she has been without fluid.

Try not to worry and just think she'll be in your arms very soon! xx

nappyaddict · 29/07/2009 01:53

How do they know you've got no fluid? I know people who were told they had no fluid by the MWs but they ended up having loads. Ask for a scan to prove this before you agree to the induction

SheWillBeLoved · 31/07/2009 11:56

Nappy - I had a scan at my term + 10 appointment and there were no measurable pools of fluid. They ended up inducing me that night due to no fluid and erratic CTG traces, and our beautiful baby girl was born after 6.5 hours of bloody hard work at 9.15am Wednesday morning

In the last week i've had acupuncture twice, relexology twice, eaten many many pineapples (burp), drunk gallons of rasberry leaf tea. walked round covent garden with my 3 year old and taken him to the transport museum, run up and down the stairs in our 4 storey house. And had a sweep. Due tomorrow. And not a twinge. Not even a braxton hick thingy. Had internal yesterday and cervix is firmly closed, firm and posterior. Obviously, in my case, you can't get round mother nature! i'm just meant to be late. humph.
