Baby shivering/shaking inside the womb anyone had experience? I'm being sent to see a consultant.

I am 28 weeks tomorrow
I woke up last night on the sofa, and I was laying on my side, the baby felt like it was shaking inside me, it didn't last long maybe 30 seconds. It was such a wierd feeling it was like she was shivering/shaking or almost like a seizure type movement.

I had this a couple of weeks ago too but was half asleep and thought it couldn't be what it felt like but now that I had it again last night I know it was the baby shaking and not just me!

I had my 28 week MW app today and told her about it, She had never heard of anyone else saying they had felt this so has booked me in for a consultant app in 10 days.

She said that babies (after they are born) can shake if they have low blood pressure or low blood sugar.

I have googled this shaking in the womb feeling and thankfully no horror stories but a few people have said they have also felt this, some said their baby had shaking episodes a few times after birth too. No one knew why it had happened though.

anyone else had this? I'm trying not to worry!!

thanks

I am 29 weeks and also feeling this.
Did anyone actually find out what it is? I’m also suffering strong Braxton Hicks this time around. This is my 3rd pregnancy.

I have felt my baby wriggle and jiggle so much inside me. I always put it down to him dancing and having a moment. Never thought that it could be a concern but now I am wondering as well...?

Siennasmumm · 15/01/2021 09:23

I googled this just now as I was also experiencing the same thing, and found this from an Australian OBs website:

“At times, more unusual movements maybe felt. These include repetitive rhythmic hiccups by the baby, and a sudden “shaking” caused by the baby’s own startle response. Neither of these are of any specific concern.”

I am experiencing the same shake occasionally and to be honest it's scaring me. I hope the baby is okay am 35weeks and it's my 3rd and have never experienced this with my other 2 pregnancies.

Preventing the buildup of tension in our muscles is critical to maintaining healthy posture and movement throughout our lives. Fetuses have been observed pandiculating in the womb, showing how deeply ingrained the pandicular response is in our nervous system and how fundamental it is to our musculoskeletal functioning.Apr 21, 2019

I know this because my husband does the same thing lol.

I had HIGH anxiety during my last bit of pregnancy in late 2021. Looking back now I could definitely say that ALL things I felt during my pregnancy is completely normal... I also felt those vibrations... it could be so many different things from baby peeing, your own muscles in abdomen etc. it's not baby having a seizure or anything like that. My child is 10 months old and completely normal, healthy and happy !! She does still have like a little cute leg twitch when falling asleep just like some of us do when we are falling into sleep. It's nothing to worry about, please try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy, if all tests and scans are looking normal it most probably is because the baby is completely healthy! I WISH I enjoyed my pregnancy more instead of constant worries and anxiety.

Dyra · 20/08/2022 08:10

I had this in my first pregnancy. She's coming up 3 now. Perfectly healthy and happy. Well, as happy as a toddler who isn't allowed to eat ice cream at every meal can be. Never knew that sort of shivering (pretty sure it's what it was) is called pandiculation. TIL.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 20/08/2022 08:30

I was told this is the baby's nervous system doing random test fires and also the startle reflex

Laughingmole · 21/08/2022 13:51

I’m 25 weeks today and have been having a similar feeling for the last week or so! I wasn’t too concerned about it and glad it sounds very common!

CoalCraft · 21/08/2022 17:16

I had that a few times with second baby, though it only ever lasted a few seconds, not thirty. She's now two weeks old and completely fine.
