Buying a pushchair/travel system

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and looking into buying a pushchair / travel system. I have a V reg Polo and have so far only come across 3 that will fit in the boot without having to remove the parcel shelf. I was told in Mamas and Papas that you should not keep a young baby in the car seat for longer than half an hour. This seems a bit strange because if you followed this advice you wouldn't be able to leave the house! In the Mothercare catalogue it says you can keep them in a car seat for up to 2 hours. Which should I believe and can anyone with a small car recommend a decent travel system? Also, is it better fitting a car seat onto a base or strapping it into the car with the seat belt?

I have a Mothercare urban detour xtreme which is fab to push but it doesnt fit in the boot of my Nissan Micra. Its also heavy to lift in and out of the boot. When DS was 3 mths old I got myself a Maclaren Quest stroller and this is really easy to fold ( it was a bit stiff when new) and it fits in the boot easily. My only complaint about this stroller is that the brake is really hard to put on and off.

sarahhal-lol lol lol, yep i was suprised, especially walking past a local first school and a small group of little boys ran to the fence and started going "wow!! look at that buggy its got disk brakes"!! , but yes, most blokes love it, but then all boys like their toys dont they! i love the brake, we live on a hill so its great, means im not dragged down the hill by the buggy!
hmm, understand your predicament, we've anougher due in nov and i really want to use the matrix again so ds will have to sit on a seat to go if he can manage it(he'll be 20 months) or when dp and i go out togeter baby in matrix, ds in single buggy, then when i go out alone maybe a double buggy! hmmm....I dunno!

Fells - just out of interest (sorry to interrupt thread - I have a J matrix car seat and Carrera C for sale ( car seat on e-bay at mo and finishing soon - Weds I think). Let me know if you're interested in whole system. Not sure whether I can withdraw from e-bay 'legally' as such, now...anyhow CAT me if interested. If not -good luck! Check Matrix fits your car if you go with it. Carrera folds down fairly compactly for a quality 'chunky pram' iykwim!

Thanks, I've managed to get one already on ebay - any advice on where to get a mattress for the Matrix? I've looked on the stockists' websites and it doesn't seem to be sold separately. Would a mothercare moses basket/crib mattress be likely to fit it?

I am 26 weeks now and intending to get the Bebe Cofort High Trek with Creatis Car seat. DH and I both over 6 foot so this suited posture etc.

Anyone know when i should be ordering it? also any reviews ?

Rachey1969 · 24/05/2005 11:34

I had a bebe confort with my first 2 and they are good for adjustable height handles - I'm 5'6'' but dp is 6'5''! I don't think anyone's handles would be big enough for him - I've told him he would just look so cute with a sling awww!

forevermore · 24/05/2005 11:39

what was the bebe confort like for going out and about, shopping etc.

The weal base is quite wide but presumed they would manufacture them if this was a problem???

Rachey1969 · 24/05/2005 11:45

It was a nice solid pushchair/pram, I'm struggling to remember cos it was 10 yrs ago! They're probably improved now anyway. My only reservation was that it was cumbersome to fold to put in the car especially with cosytoes/apron/hood etc. If you could leave it up and could walk to your local shops it would be fine. Ds2 was born into a hot end of May and I bought a buggy suitable from birth which I used almost straight away because they are so easy to manage. I've had a double pushchair for ds2 and dd and managed to get into most places so width of the Bebe Confort shouldn't be a problem. This time I'm going for the Jane Carrera because the chassis is light. Because this will be a winter baby I will use the matrix as a carrycot with hood and apron.

I got a new mattress from Hazel Slack at this e-mail address - she was very helpful! Good luck!

I need some advice.. does anyone know which one would be better the Jane Matrix Carrera or the Mamas and Papas pramette with a Primo Viaggio. I drive around alot as I live in the country..we also have family up north and are preparing a trip there after the baby is born!! However I have been told that I would have a problem with the Matrix as I have a small car (Peugeot 306) is this true???

This isn't my first child as I have a ds who will be 3 on Saturday!!! For him I had a urban detour and he loved it apart from as he got older the he wanted to sit up straight and the sit didn't go up far enough!! If someone could give me some advice I would appreciate it....

Thanks

Help! I need to buy a buggy / pram, its my first child and I would like to get something new! That is suitable for living in a village with hills, but that is also able to have the child facing you.
I keep on making up my mind then ALWAYS find negative reviews on everything. Can anyone advice me as I would just like to buy something and stop thinking about prams its driving me nuts!! The baby is due in 9 weeks. Top choice was Bugaboo or Quinny Buzz, am I wasting my money?

My heart was set on the Graco Quattro Deluxe Travel System but i've heard lots of reports that it's really big, bulky and heavy. I had a look around last night at Toys R Us and they've got this Britax travel system (cant remember the actual name) up there and after having a play with it, it seems really nice! It goes down very easily and snaps back up again in a second, all one handed too, which is a plus. Plus it's much lighter than the Graco. I'm going to find some reviews to look at but i think despite the fact it doesn't have a lie flat carry cot with it, it does seem like the better option and is quite a bit cheaper too.

hello, this is my first post. I have read through the above and just want a simple bit of advice. I am due in 9 weeks and we have bought a Graco Mosaic travel system. DH and I are now worried that it doesn't lie flat enough and that we will have to buy a seperate pram as well. do you think this is necessary? thanks

lucysnowe · 28/11/2007 12:37

Hi all

Glad I?m not the only one to find all the different travel systems utterly confusing!

Can the Jane Carrera lie flat? I?m looking for a 3 in 1 that fits in a small car but can also go flat so I can take out the beb and keep it in the flattened car seat for a while if I?m visiting.
