I'm 11 weeks and 5 pounds increase so far. Not sure if that's too much or not, but I'm hungry so who cares! Very interested to hear what other weight gains there were at this stage.

I am 20wks and have gained 1 kilo. HOWEVER, I think this is very low, and is due to giving up alcohol. So it's weightloss cancelling out weightgain IYSWIM.
I did have a half bottle of wine a night habit

Last pg I gained about 11 kilos total. About 2 stone(?)

Some people gain at the start, some middle, and some at the end. As long as you're eating relatively healthily I wouldn't worry about it - unless you have other symptoms like water retention, then mention it to your GP/midwife.

I have put on 5kgs (11 pounds) so far and am only 10 weeks today. My BMI was on the high side of normal to start with - about 23-24 - so its not like I am catching up from being underweight.

Its not like I was pigging out initially, but I was very very tired and spent a couple of days in bed here and there amd still cant seem to get about much.

Then since about week 8 I ahve been feeling ill and only eating seems to calm it - generally stodge and cheese. So diet has nto been as good as it was in the beginning. Nonetheless I put on 2 kgs in the last week. I am wondering if its water rentention I dont feel like I ate enough to put on that much weight.

Shame I was planning on being all healthy adn active at this part of the pregnancy to get all fit and strong for the baby. But I just dont seem to be able to.

Don't worry Firsttimer, I planned that as well, but of course you're too tired to exercise at this stage. If you're not a regular exerciser they recommend you leave it until 16 weeks anyway. By which time you'll probably have a bit more energy. Swimming's very good - and maternity swimsuits quite cheap. I have a tankini I got from Blooming Marvellous

Re the "I'm hungry, who cares", approach, my attitude is this: health bods say you need 200 extra calories a day when pg. Well, over a week that equals approx 8 glasses of wine. I definitely used to regularly drink 8 glasses of wine a week before getting pg , so I've lost those calories from my regular diet for a start.

So technically I could eat more than 200 extra calories a day and be OK [oink emoticon]. As it happens, I am eating quite a lot, but apart from my tummy which is admittedly podgier, I seem thinner all over if anything. Haven't weighed self for years- am happy as long as my size 12s fit!

Also, I think if you haven't experienced the joys of "morning" sickness, it's difficult to understand how necessary it is to eat something (and you can only stomach the thought of something very specific- not often carrot sticks or ryvita!). Willpower just doesn't come into it- it's a case of eat or vomit!

I tell myself that when the sickness stops, I will monitor what I eat more closely (I'm 10w now and it's getting worse...)

Loads, although refused to weigh myself.

I was starving, not hungry and bored but really deep painful hunger that I couldn't ignore.

Currently 25 weeks, but have not gained excessive weight since about 14 weeks.

I discussed it with my midwife, and her view was that this was just what happenned to some women.

flossie787 · 12/07/2009 16:24

I'm 14 weeks, 3 days and I haven't gained any weight at all, despite not having morning sickness (I had some nausea but it didn't stop me eating!)

I've been keeping a close eye on everything I eat to make sure it's healthy and not empty calories. I did that before I got pregnant anyway so it's not hard for me to do.

I imagine I will start piling on the pounds soon though!

SheWillBeLoved · 12/07/2009 16:28

Lost 5lbs in the first trimester, stayed the same in the second, and have put on 1 stone 10lbs in the third.

flossie787 · 12/07/2009 16:29

P.S My midwife told me you only need the extra 200-300 cals a day in the last trimester and that the vast majority of people eat a lot more than the recommended 2000 cals a day anyway.

I must admit, when I started keeping a food diary before I got pregnant I was shocked to see how many cals I was actually consuming - and I considered myself to be healthy and not an over-eater. Worth bearing in mind...

Hope I don't sound too obsessive! Lol! :-)
