Footling Breech

Hiya lovlies,

Am 35 weeks and my midwife's just realised babba is a footling breech.

Was wondering if anyone's been in a similar situation and what the outcome was.

I'm trying really hard to be positive, this is my second pregnancy and last was all ok so am guessing that there's every chance that baby will turn in time. BUT I would like to know every possible outcome to be ready.

Am I right in presuming that with a footling breech they wouldn't attempt an external turn? Does anyone have any other ideas for nudging the baby along?

I'd really hate a c section unless it's absolutely neccessary so am willing to try anything!!

Hello, sorry been such a delay but just to mention that my little boy is here! Born 1st July.

He never turned in the end although god love him he tried his best. My waters broke before my elective CS date and I was rushed through an emergency cs before I had op to change my mind (I do labour fast)

It wasn't the same beautiful experience I had with my daughter but sod it he's here, he's safe and oh my word he's perfect

Much much love in our home right now.

Hope you're all well lovelies x x

I have just been discharged from hospital after having pains and pinkish discharge. I'm 35 weeks also. I knew he had been in the breech position this whole time, but it wasn't until being admitted to hospital that I had even heard of this "footling breech position".
Reading this thread has really helped me understand a few things. Although having a c section sounds almost unavoidable Sad It also sounds like most people who have a footling breech baby either go into labour or have there babies earlier than expected. I can't help but be slightly worried, but at least I know slightly more about all your experience's now. As the doctors were not very forthcoming with any explanations.
Thank you xx

I had a footling breech a number of years ago. It was a successful outcome fortunately but I have to say the most painful experience of my life. It was a surprise for everyone and the first anyone knew about it was finding the foot in the birth canal. With everything that could have gone wrong I think if I had my time again if I had an option I would have had a caesarean safer for you and baby.
