I was at work today, just standing there minding my own business watching the world go by (had no customers) and I felt the fluttery/bubbly/popping sensation of first movements. This is my second pregnancy so I recognise the feeling, however im only 13 weeks 4 days! Has anyone else ever felt the baby move so early?

That is early! I'm pg with my 5th and at 17 weeks have only just started to feel it move.....maybe I'm just busier though!

sleepymommy · 27/05/2009 21:37

Yes, this is common in second/later pregnancies.

Hi - yes, I think that's about when I first started to feel movements this time round (2nd time), and really regularly from as early as 15 weeks. On the 20 week scan this little one showed up as having really long legs, and has been a real wriggler. If you've felt it before, then there's no mistaking it really! How exciting

How do you know if its the baby? i am expecting twins and am at 16 weeks and swear I thought I felt one move th other day but have felt nothing since - is that normal?

pavlovthecat · 28/05/2009 08:39

baisey - yes, I was 12 weeks and a few days this pg. I felt it at about 16 weeks with dd, this is my second pg, and I absolutely know without a doubt it was a baby movement, not wind, stretching or anything else. I asked on my ante-natal thread and a few women there with there 2nd plus babies have felt it this early, in particular those who felt it early last pg.

YEY, its lovely isn't it?

Yes I felt my second move before my 12 week scan. Only in certain positions - driving seemed to be one.

Hi Fio - its difficult first time round to know, I think, until you've felt the same feeling a few times. But if you think you've felt it, it probably was... you just need to wait for them to get more regular before you know for definite that that was it. And yes - its totally normal to feel the movements really irregularly for a few weeks before the baby (babies) get big enough to start feeling it every day or more often. Don't know if having twins (congrats by the way ) would mean you would feel it earlier than usual, but it kind of makes sense as you'll be filling up faster maybe IYSWIM?

Fio - its hard to describe, but asbaisy said, it could feel like a bubbling/fluttery/popping feeling, or a wobbley movement - it will be in your uterus, rather than around it, and will be in a place you have not felt anything before. It will be unlike gas but you might mistake it for gas the first few times until you recognise how your gas sensations feel.
