Just wondered if anyone else is out there carrying a BIG baby. My DS was 5.5kg (11lb 10oz) and is now a 'normal sized' 2.5 year old. I'm 34 weeks now and am finding things really uncomfortable again (even more so with a toddler who won't let me rest!) The scan (ok, so notoriously unreliable) last Monday was already showing baby at 6lb (2.5kg) I was in hospital last week for a couple of nights as I was having bad Braxton Hicks and everyone thought the baby was making a break for it.

I'm having yet another GTT test tomorrow (my 3rd) as the midwife is worried this baby is going to be bigger () and wants me to be definatively checked for diabetes. So far my levels are just within normal range but I think there's something iffy going on as I am craving sugar and have a foul coating on my tongue. I am trying to manage things with my diet but the ice pop cravings aren't helping!

I have an elective booked for 25th June and just need to survive things till then, am just finding general mobility hard work and feeling a tad sorry for myself, sniff.

Ye Gods you poor thing!

My DD2 was big (not by your standards!) but her rapid growth was at about 6m when - if she'd continued to grow at the same rate - she'd have been 13lb born. Because her growth was so rapid it pushed my organs around a bit and I couldn't walk across a room without getting short of breath, so I do sympathise.

Sadly I can't do anything more constructive . I hope you have someone who can help with DS. Failing that, a month of CBeebies won't do him any lasting harm whilst you lie on the sofa with your feet up.

Good luck.

Thanks Daftbat, there's nothing so tragic as an unanswered MN post! The organ thing is the main problem, not enough room for my vital ones to work happily and the baby to swim about. Feeling slightly less sorry for myself today and trying to look at all the positives. Had another GTT test this morning and may get more of an idea if it is actually diabetes.

Am trying not to feel guilty about the amount of Cbeebies my DS is watching as it's only for a shortish time! My MIL will be staying next week so it should make things a bit easier!

I sympathise! I have been told this baby feels big (very unreliable I know) and I am very tired and uncomfortable. I am 38 weeks today and only getting a few hours sleep a night. I have a 3 year old to entertain. I will be resorting to TV this afternoon!

you too have my sympathy, my first two were over 10lbs. What I would say is only advise re labour, try and deliver on all fours. I did this with my second and didn't tear at all.

I'm expecting baby no4 and have a feeling it's a big one!!

Thanks for the sympathies Roseablility and HeinzSight. I did make it out of the house this morning to the park and gave my little one a run about (hard work though!) made me feel slightly less of a rubbish mother. Difficult when he kept running off and I could hardly keep up with him. I'm hopefully sorted for the birth (unless baby makes an appearance earlier) I'm booked an elective c section as my last attempt at natural birth was a traumatic one. I'm just trying to make it through until the date. It's completely selfish of me to want to bring it forward but I am really scared as to how I'm going to manage/move the next 4 weeks.

I realise now having read about others experiences and the size of average babies etc that my take on pregnancy and birth is very different from most mums. It can feel a bit isolating and I feel like a freak for having such large babies but I am also trying to be grateful that this is my only 'problem'.

Good going on having 4! I shall be stopping at 2 and having a breast reduction after the years feeding as reward for all the heavy duty lifting I've had to do...it doesn't help I'm normally a size 32JJ to boot!
