Hi

Only just pg with #1 so don?t feel 100% justified in posting yet but can I ask for directions?

Im sure there must be a post somewhere on the site about methods of keeping a pregnancy secret for as long as viable

Eg substituting G&T and just having the G

Can anyone give me a shove in the right direction or make any suggestions?

You will think im bonkers about wanting to keep quiet about it but DH &I just cant be arsed to deal with interfering families until totaly necessary.

Thank you in advance

Also as we are not telling anyone in RL can I just say with bells on!

'On antibiotics' worked for a while for me with the no drinking alcohol thing

Iklboo · 27/05/2009 13:43

Oh - and congratulations!

basilnboo · 27/05/2009 13:49

Say you're the designated driver, or that you're trying to cut back on alcohol. Excuses won't work forever (or 12 weeks!) though, unfortunately.

angel1976 · 27/05/2009 13:56

You're on a detox? People usually feel too embarrassed to ask anymore...

YanknCock · 27/05/2009 14:00

This reminds me....I read somewhere (stupid pregnancy magazine I think) that you should order yourself your usual glass of wine, but instead of drinking it all, you should 'tip it out bit by bit so no one realises you're not drinking'.

Um....unless you're at someone's house standing by the sink, where exactly are you meant to tip it out? I have this mental image of a pub with a very soggy carpet/slipperly floor!

naomi83 · 27/05/2009 14:02

Buy 4/5 casual tops and a going out top in 1 size too big so that oyu won't need maternity clothes till you're ready to tell

basilnboo · 27/05/2009 14:04

Soggy Carpet or miffed DH as I tip my wine into his pint!

are those pg magazines any good? or just full of you must by all this junk type adds?

Thank you for all the responses btw

pregnancy magazines = rubbish. I don't know why I buy them. Usually end up feeling like I'm doing it all wrong and will be a terrible mother because I don't have x y z product that is a 'nursery must-have'. So I come back to MN for sensible people to tell me babies don't need much besides a few clothes, a moses basket, and my boobs.

KristinaM · 27/05/2009 14:09

i was NEVER asked why i wasn't drinking

i dont think its good manners anyway.

if anyone is rude enough to ask them you can say

on a diet - there are XXXX calories in that drink you know

just trying to be healthy/ cut down

on antibiotics for dental problems/abcess

I'm driving tonight

on a detox ( if you are that kind of person)

BTW you need to have the tonic alone not the gin

we didnt tell anyone until i was 5 months with my first. but i was skinnny then......

KristinaM · 27/05/2009 14:13

agree with Y and C about preg magazines

waste of money - i have never bought or read one and all my kids seem fine

Cosmosis · 27/05/2009 14:28

Say you have a hangover

basilnboo · 27/05/2009 14:31

Thanks all, great suggestions

YnC & KristinaM im sure you have saved me a few quid on the Mags!

And don't buy the books either! Borrow from the library, and if they make you feel rotten, take them back.

triggerhappybaby · 27/05/2009 15:15

Agree with Yank - for all the good my shiny new book on pregnancy was it might as well have been a book on the history of farm machinery

YanknCock · 28/05/2009 10:10

'What to Expect When You're Expecting' makes a fantastic doorstop.

Thought of another for you, OP. Practice your poker face for when someone says 'you're not pregnant, are you?'. Of course, you realise when you tell them later they will get all smug and say 'I KNEW it!', but if you really want to keep it a secret for a bit, you may have to lie directly to someone's face. Be prepared!

basilnboo · 29/05/2009 12:57

Many thanks Yankncock, I will need that one, had trouble keeping a straight face at work when one of the girls said my best option at the mo would be to get pg I just said if only it was that easy and kept looking at my PC!
