SPD - 'Magic' Knickers!

I have been advised by my midwife to purchase 'magic' knickers as they will improve my SPD symptoms. They are the supportive panel slimming knickers, that are designed to disguise lumps and bumps. Apparently wearing the shorts version will hold my hips together and therefore lessen the pain. By no means is this a cure but apparently it will provide some relief.

I was wondering if anyone else had heard of this advice and if so, are there any brands of magic knickers that could be recommended?

I had a look in Matalan and bought their version of tummy shaper shorts but they really haven't made much difference. The Sloggi version were only available in knickers, not shorts so I guessed they wouldn't support my hips.

I suffered terribly with SPD in my first pregnancy. Currently I'm 14 weeks into my second and the symptoms are back again. I'm happy to try anything that may work!

I hoenstly don't think you'll get much joy for very long with them as I would imagine the fact that all the presure is designed to pull the tummy in whilst your stomach is expanding would be uncomfortable.

Although I didn't have spd I have been using something similar, it's a bump band made of a similar fabric but designed with a pregant belly in mind the suport sits lower under the bump allowing room for growth. (I got mine last pregnancy I think from toysrus but I'm sure their availble fairy universally.

Good luck

Hiya

I have been given a sacro illiac joint belt (SIJ belt) by the physio for SPD + old SIJ injury, and this really does help to hold the pelvis together. you can get them prescribed by the nhs physios at no cost....might be worth asking rather than winging it with tight knickers?

good luck!

I suffered with SPD with both my Dcs. I did find these 'passion killer' pants did help a bit
They have extra support around the pelvis and also support your bump taking a bit of pressure off.
Didn't really help when I got really big, but useful for a while.

these

congrats and good luck.

What about maternity spanx? I think you can get them on ASOS. They are specifically designed for pregnant women so won't put pressure on your bump.

I was given a special belt by the physiotherapist. Really strong elastic and mahooosive velcro.

Absolute bliss, held my pelvis together beautifully.

Ask your midwife for a referral to hospital for it. My gp had never even seen one before.
