Really ridiculous question, but....are there likley to be ketones in fake tan?

My urine sample at 33 week antenatal had trace ketones. No one is too bothered because it was a trace amount, but I'm just wondering if it could have been my fake tan getting in the bottle.

I did very thorough job of said tan that morning and then rushed off to town forgetting to take a decent sized pot for weeing in after lunch at the surgery. So, I had to try and wee in the silly size sample pot which was a bit of a disaster, frankly.

Without going down the tmi route, the fake tan could have come off the very top of my legs and into the pot I think.

That's why I'm asking the question!

No I really don't think so. Ketones are produced when the body breaks down fat for energy, so I don't think they would be in fake tan. They can sometimes be present if you have skipped a meal or been sick I think. (don't quote me on that though!) Good luck with the pregnancy!

Hmmm, I had just had a M&S sandwich and a whole packet of choc covered summer fruits

I am not aware of ketones being in fake tan though I did have traces on several ocasions with dd 2. This due to poor apitite from carrying high (head under stomach). I also think it is due to not eating enough but at regular times as I had a very similar experience to you. My midwife just used to look at me an frown. Good luck

That makes more sense...I hve been missing evening meals due to severe Gaviscon defying heartburn.

You can also show Ketones if you have had no carbohydrates at all. In the Atkins diet or Cambridge you can be in mild Ketosis, for example.

Its more likely to be that you are not eating enough though.
