Any ideas of where to get a nice hospital bag from? Also, what size to buy?

I took a small suitcase, seemed silly to pay good £ for a bag.As for size its up to you.

In retrospect firsttime out I packed loads of uneccessary crap.

Essentials are:

Maternity pads, more than you think you will need!I only put in one pack...bad mistake, the lochia was like the worst period you could imagine x10,so more than 1 pack!

Don't think you will get into your pre preg clothes straight off,was gutted when I realised I couldn't get into my size 10 jeans, stick with maternity clothes (WHAT AN IDIOT i WAS)

Lots of old/cheap knickers you can throw away.

For baby, pack of nappies, wipes or cotton wool
Vests
Babygros
Cardies
Hats

Bottles of water/juice
Snacks

Toiletries for yourself

Dressing gown
Slippers

Anything else can be brought in later

I just use a messanger bag. Depends what you want to take really. I have just packed mine and it looks a bit empty so i'm thinking I have forgotton something as it has always benn jam packed full before.

I had a leather weekend bag from M+S,it was the perfect size and had pockets on the outside which were handy for nappies, snacks, pads etc.

Ah meant to say I took one bag for labour and another for afterwards so when in labour you only have to take in a smallish bag and get the rest when you are moved onto the ward. Works well for me.

wrinklytum seems to have covered everything-

I take a bag for me & a bag for baby - as I couldnt find a bag the right size and couldnt decide what I needed with me for labour and what for afterwards.

if you dont want to wear a hospital gown then an old t'shirt or nightie to labour in and nightie/PJs for afterwards with easy access if you are BF.

camera with new batteries

nursing bra if BF

I have an outfit for me to come home in, in the car boot (maternity clothes) as couldnt trust DH to pack me something suitable, and anyway last time I was home within 6 hrs so he didnt go home!

for coming home you may need
lots of paractemol,

atleast double the amount of maternity pads you thought you would need (think 9 months of periods in one go!) although I prefer to use night-time pads - mat pads can be bit "nappy" like! I think DH was sent out to buy more daily with DS!

some lansinoh if BF

Hi everyone.

Whole range of labour bags and hospital bags per packed.

And a good list of what's needed inside.

So glad i packed: antibac wipes and a travel bottle of really nice scented bath gel.

Wish I had packed: maternity clothes not my old clothes (as another poster has pointed out)

I was kept in for a couple of days unexpectedly because they wanted to observe my baby (but it was all fine so no horror stories) so I was glad to have some stuff to help me while away the time, like a book and be able to have a wash.

Don't pack lots but it's worth having a seperate bag for baby things - if you are tired or poorly, and the nurse is kind enough to change your baby, she doesn't have to rummage around in your own private bag. Call me weird but I prefer to retain some privacy especially when already in a ward without much.
