Phantom Midwife or is she just busy?

So I popped along to see the nurse-midwife at my GPs surgery a week last Monday. Reckon I'm pregnant, I said. She gave me loads of useful leaflets, checked I actually was happy about it then congratulated me, took my blood pressure and told me the community midwife would be in touch. At that stage I thought I was 7 weeks (I'm not, but that's another thread). Now I've been brought up 'not to bother the medics' with petty fuss, but I'm 35 and this is my first baby - should I expect the midwife might have at least given me a ring by now? Or not...

(whilst very much appreciating that she will be busy with London's baby-boom - EVERYBODY seems to be pregnant round here!! )

It depends - where we are the midwife doesn't contact you until you are about 10 weeks. So if they think you're 7 weeks they might contact you in a week or two. If you know you're more than 7 weeks (well 8 now) I would give them a ring.

Ok ta. As long as it's normal and I've not fallen throught the NHS sieve then that's just tickety boo

I booked in with the midwife at the GP at about 6 weeks and agreed which hospital I would go to. My appointment with the community midwife and scan date came through in the post a few weeks later (Saw MW at about 13 weeks and had scan at 12 weeks).
Which hospital have you booked at? Some other MNetter might be able to tell you what is normal for your lot.

It might be worth seeing if you can phone the midwife - at our surgery once you've told the GP if you know what hospital you want to go to you just book your own appointment with the relevant community midwife. You never know if your details have made it across from one professional to another, and even if they don't call you until 10 weeks if you're at work you might need more notice to get time off for the appointment so I'm sure they won't mind if you just ask.

Good thinking Alana, thanks. Alas there is no phone number for the community midwife, or they have chosen not to share. I'll try and speak to the nurse-midwife on Monday or Tuesday (the only days she works) and check whether I should be making my own appointment. Not sure there's as much rush anyway cos I think I'm only 6 weeks now (all being well :O/ )
