Breech movements feel different?

Did anyone carrying breech find that their babies movements felt less powerful than a baby lying in any other position?

I'm 31 weeks now, and at a 28 week private scan we found that she was lying breech, and it was confirmed by the midwife a few days later. I mentioned that the movements had felt deeper and she said it was all down to position.

That was 3 weeks ago now, and the movements still feel pretty much the same. They feel deeper, and less forceful than the kicks before which made my whole tummy jump! Sometimes I have to lie there and prod away at my tummy to make her move so that I can feel something, just to keep myself sane!

I have the midwife again in 2 days, so I'll mention it to her, but thought I'd get some opinions on here in the meantime

Yes very different, no moving bump and movements all felt inside and deeper. Didn't realise at the time as DD was my first, only really realised when pg with DS.

LissyGlitter · 18/05/2009 23:05

DD ended up breech with her legs up by her ears and bum down. I could feel her feet kicking my ribs and her head poking out at the front. Not much movement though, no.

MANATEEequineOHARA · 18/05/2009 23:06

Yes, it was noticably different to me, sounds like the baby is still breach from what you say about the movements. I think at 31 weeks there is still a reasonable chance they can turn back of their own accord though.

SheWillBeLoved · 18/05/2009 23:17

Ah, good not that she's still breech - but that it's the reason for what seems like lack of movement! On the scan, her feet were curled right up by her head and bottom down as you described Lissy. Any movements seem more like squirming rather than kicks/punches.

I hope she moves soon before she's so big that her spinning around makes me faint like I did with my mum was the first thing she reminded me of when I mentioned breech!

Mine was breech at 32 weeks and had turned by 35 weeks. Didn't feel it turn, no spinning or dizzy sensation.

SheWillBeLoved · 19/05/2009 11:41

Ooh good to know mogwai, heard nothing but horror stories about the moment breech babies turn "Ohhh you'll have a quickening, you'll go all dizzy and maybe... no you'll definitely faint!" "Pray you're asleep when she turns, you'll drop to your knees and throw up when she turns if you're awake!"

Ignore horror stories! I had dd turned by ECV after my attempt to make her with homeopathy and accupuncture failed (I had to sit with a burning giant incense type stick next to my little toe for ages at a time!).
It hurt only because my skin was pinched between the obstetrician's hands and dd's body! But the actual feeling of her turning around was fine. (and she stayed that way and was born after a 3 hour labour )

robino · 19/05/2009 17:23

Yep! "Inside" kicks here too. And a bloody great lump under my ribs for months. Can you tell she was my first and that perhaps I should have figured out that the lump was actually her head rather than her bum?

Mind you, 5 different midwives saw me in the last ten weeks of my pregnancy and none of them spotted it. And the first two midwives I had when I was in labour didn't spot it either even though they both gave me an internal...

i had an ecv at 39 wks with my last as i really wanted a natural birth but my dim wit mw didnt refer me till that late, it was freaking awful, 5 of them held me down and it crunched like hell and ultimately failed leaving me with a massively bruised stomach and feeling very battered and bruised emotionally and physically HOWEVER that is only because it was done so late, before 37 wks theyre meant to be very successful i think.

They offered me a section there and then but i said no as bubs was okay and i was booked in later in the week.

He was bottom down in my pelvis but i must admit i never found anything particularly different about his movements. However this pg the baby is head down now (am 36wks) and the feeling down there is very different! Very very heavy, very sharp with the occasional fear of weeing!

MANATEEequineOHARA · 19/05/2009 21:56

I had the ECV at 39 weeks too, Hmm...it was rather traumatic but I was trying to avoid horror stories for SheWillBeLoved!!!

Best NOT to leave the ECV so late then perhaps!

However I did manage to pass my driving test later that afternoon, a very crazy day that was!

One of my symptoms of breech with DD (and I've heard others say the same) are the kicks in the cervix, ouch ouch, they felt like electric shocks. horrid.

duchesse · 21/05/2009 04:18

I'm pretty certain mine's still breech (and has never to my knowledge deigned to be head down yet) at 27 + 4, and there is loads of movement- the little bugger cutie spends hours each day trampolining on my bladder... The midwive I saw the other day was dubious that it was breech, even though she must have been kicked several times while feeling my tummy. Ho-hum. Shall try acupuncture in a few weeks' time; I know someone who is a midwife and acupuncturist, and she prefers to do the acupuncuture at 33-34 weeks. She says that 40% of babies will turn spontaneously between 34 weeks and birth, but that 60% will with acupuncture- I think I'm willing to cough up to add 20% to the odds of a cephalic birth.

BikeRunSki · 21/05/2009 09:55

I agreed with Heinzsight. I kept saying this to mw, who told me they must be punches. DS was undiagnosed footling breech. Eight months later, his favorite thing is still standing up.

hedgiemum · 21/05/2009 10:09

I'm 29 weeks and baby is extended breech (feet up the head) - I've had my other DC early so am not feeling confident about there being enough time for baby to turn (though I hope I'm wrong about that). The movements are very much reduced from what I've felt in previous pregnancies, apparently the baby is kicking towards my back rather than outwards where I'd feel it. As long as there is at least 10 movements spread through the day then there is nothing to worry about, apparently.

If baby doesn't turn, and if everything else is okay, I'm going to try to have the baby naturally - my consultants are but midwife is supportive . Found mn archives very helpful for researching the issue of natural breech delivery, and as I've had previous DC easily, I think its the right decision for me.

duchesse · 21/05/2009 10:17

God, during active periods mine has ten movements a minute. Often more. It is on the go constantly.

I know this post was a while ago but just a wanted to comment because I'm 31 weeks pregnant and really confused by my baby's position and movements.
There is lots of movement up top and I can feel something that I can move from one side of my bump to the other.

I'm really worried about breech because it's my second and going for a VBAC.
