Low lying placenta at 20 weeks

I had my 20 week scan on Tuesday and was told that I have a low lying placenta and am due to have a scan again at 34 weeks to assess the situation. If it doesnt move by then, I will need to have a c-section which I dont really want to have. I was told by the midwife that in majority of cases, the placenta moves by around 30 weeks or so.

I wanted to know if anyone else had any experience of this and what can be done to maybe move it (if anything) and what i should be doing or not doing.

hiya sabs

i was told the same thing but it was only a small part of the placenta that was low lying at 20 weeks. had my scan last week at 34+4 and it has moved so I am able to have a natural birth. Unfortunately i am unsure of anything that may help it move but fingers crossed for you it will x

There is nothing you can do to move it but in majority of cases it moves up...
I wouldn't worry too much yet unless you start to bleed in which case call an ambulance right away xxx

How low is low??? It should say on your notes whether or not its minor/major or grade 1-4...??
Don't have sex or orgasm, dont lift anything heavy, dont do any vigerous exercise and just rest.

I don't think you can do anything to move it but I had the same and it had shifted by 34 weeks.

The scan person basically said that the bottom of the uterus is the last bit that stretches and grows which is why it can often seem low at 20 weeks. Once it grows it takes the placenta up with it.

Mine was covering at 20 weeks and had moved by 32 weeks so that it was only touching. I am now waiting for another scan at 36 weeks to see whether it has moved any more. I too do not want a c/s.

My understanding is that the more serious ones are given another scan sooner. So if you've got to wait until 34 weeks, they're obviously think yours will move. (Those with more experience, please correct me if I am wrong here).

I wasn't given any information at all, except for to phone immediately if I bleed. I have carried on as normal (I'm not very physically active though as my morning sickness hasn't completely cleared up). I'm now 33 weeks and haven't had any problems with bleeding.

Mine was low at 20 weeks so was asked to come back for rescan at 34. Had a scanat 30 (for different reasons) and it had moved and was fine.

I wasn't given any info on what not to do either but did ask as I love running - was just told to look out for any bleeding which thankfully I never had despite running up to 7 miles some runs.
