hip and leg pain on waking

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone suffered this? I am 31 weeks pregnant and for the last 4 or 5 weeks I have suffered the most horrendous lower lumbar and leg pain when I wake up and get out of bed. I told the midwife and she said there was nothing I could do that it is normal.

We have checked the mattress and that is fine and I have found the only way I alleviate the pain slightly is to sleep sitting up - not easy I can tell you.

I have tried pillows between legs, supporting bump and back but to no avail.

Anyone any other ideas?

Thanks
HMS

bumping for you

I had bad leg pain in early pregnancy and didn't know of anything to help. A bit of exercise eased it a bit. A short walk might help.

No ideas but I can sympathise, I suffered the same during pregnancy. Couldn't sleep any more than 1 1/2 hrs before pain became too much. Had to get up, stagger round room (or to bathroom) till it felt a bit better then go back to bed and lie on my other side for the next 1 1/2. Figured it was training for when DS arrived!

Hi
I am 33 weeks tomorrow and I have the same leg pain upon wakening, my legs feel v heavy and achey.
I went swimming yesterday and think it did my legs and circulation a lot of good as i woke this morning with no pain. I think its v important to do a little bit of exercise if you can. Swimming is fab because the water supports your weight, I really enjoy it.
Hope that helps a bit!

Hiya, me too. I'm 33 wks and my hips ache like mad from lying on my side. I have to turn over every hr or so.

It was the same in my last PG. Last night for the first time I ended up downstairs propped up on the sofa and slept half sitting up, which was better.

Hi

I had this at 21 weeks and my midwife referred me to the physio's at the hospital. They found that my right hip was slightly out but fixed it and gave me exercises to help through out the rest of pregnancy...

Maybe ask you midwife about physio?? Or ring them direct??
