Told not to eat salad or raw veggies

I wondered if I could get a second or even a tenth opinion. I've just spoken to my doctor who advised me not to eat any salad or raw veggies even if I've carefully prepared them myself because of the risk of listeria and other bugs. Problem is that is exactly the food I'm craving at the moment. Looking for excuses to ignore this advice is possible . I'm six weeks and 2 days pg btw

thanx

kiwifruit ... you are right, they are anal about it in NZ ...
I horrified my friends by tucking into a ham sandwich (sarnie made at home using vacuum packed ham slices bought that day from the supermarket) when I was 10 weeks pregnant.
They advise you not to go for salad bar stuff for the reason you say BUT pre packed salad is ok if you wash it before you eat it.
The reason they are strict about cold meats is that there was a high profile case about a lady who got listeria from a cafe sandwich and lost her baby.
Thing is, you can get so caught up with this stuff and never ever eat or drink anything.
But not eating salad and veggies that you wash and prepare yourself is just silly IMO .... I know I keep posting but I keep shaking my head when i think of this .....

Ghosty - a friend of mine at home was horrified when I told her I'd had a ham sandwich for lunch and gave me a huge lecture! Hadn't heard about that poor woman though - can see where it's come from now. Have to admit that I'm being much more careful about ham in the firdge than I ever was before and won't eat it if it's been open for longer than a day.

Where in NZ are you?

Just make sure YOU wash them well, then you know they're clean and not only will they keep bubba healthy but you too!
