Just wondering if anyone is attending the hospital in Durham throughout their Pregnancy and what they think? Or has anyone had their baby there?

Hi

I had my daughter there 5 years ago. Only moved up to the area at 7 months pg and couldn't fault my antenatal care either in the community (Consett was my local hospital for day to day appointments) or at Durham. I developed obstetric cholestasis within a fortnight of moving up and the care was fantastic by my consultant at Durham hospital. The delivery rooms were modern and ensuite and despite having to stay in for 5 days afterwards, I was allowed to stay in my ensuite room for free. At times I did feel during those extra days that I wasn't given as much care post-natally, but I'm sure the MWs were just busy. DD was induced at 36 weeks and refused to feed for 48 hours and I fought hard against letting them give her formula as I was desperate to breastfeed (She was 7lb 4oz, so not small for 4 weeks early). Although they were very supportive in helping me latch her on properly and lent me an expressing machine to try and stimulate my supply, they were pretty forceful in their determination and poor DD was heel pricked every 4 hours to check her blood glucose and bilirubin levels. She ended up needing 48 hours light therapy for jaundice and started breast-feeding when my milk came through - (She then refused a bottle until she was 9 months old!!)

However, I would happily go back there again if I lived up there.
