Why is my body screaming for food?

I mean, I know it's normal for your body to put down a little weight during pregnancy, for later on I guess.... but I'm already overweight, a good three stone over weight in fact... so why is my body screaming for food. I'm never like this normally (normally I'm just greedy ) You'd think my body would realise there's plenty of fat stores, I don't need any more! I'm trying to make any snacking I do ryvitas and fruit, but all I want is a big pile of warm crumpets oozing butter....

Just eat dude. Protein is good, lean protein.

I craved beef, broccoli, red pepper and ice.... then found out a was aneamic!

Protein satisfies for longer and contains good baba making stuff.

Crumpets with baked beans?

I'm 16+4 and starving. Am I right in thinking you are about the same gestation?
Apparently the baby doubles in size between 16 and 20 weeks so I reckon that is why I've eaten so many caramel wafers today...

I wouldn't say no to some buttery crumpets either.

Eat! Your body is making a brand new human being - takes a lot of energy. Your body is telling you what it needs.

I couldn't eat much in late pregnancy due to reflux and boy did I feel shit. Baby took all it needed from me (I lost weight!!) but the tiredness and fuzzed brain which ensued was dreadful, I wouldn't recommend it. Eat!!!

Eating's pretty much seen me through this pregnancy. Morning sickness and low energy levels all boosted by glorious food.(Carbs please)

I'm also overweight and know the difference between greedy cravings and starving hunger but it seems my pregnant brain doesn't. The early weeks I thought I was going to pass out if I didn't eat every two hours, the angry sounds my stomach made were just plain embarrassing

My second trimester it dropped off a bit but now am on with the sugary, fatty stuff with a vengence. Just go for it, sod feeling worried about putting weight on. This is nine months out your whole life and there is a valid reason for the extra pounds & stones.

I know what you're all saying but I was so down after ds was born and I was huge. We went on holiday when he was three months old and I remember looking at a photo of us all by the pool. It was taken from quite far away and I was lying on a sun lounger. I thought I had something on my lap, but when I zoomed in, it was my massive stomach! I'm heading for size 18 already and I'm only 7 weeks gone.

Christiana - thanks for the tip about the Digestif tea. I am on Boots version of pregnacare so I'm fairly sure I'm not missing out on anything. We've just had a really nice stir fry with prawns, noodles, chilli, lime juice and tons of coriander so I'm going for big flavours... of course I'm still hungry though!

I didn't realise that about Ryvita though... I have been having a scrape of philly light on it, so that might bring it's GI level down. I do know fruit is packed with sugar, but I thought if I'm craving sugar, I may as well have something that's got a few vitamins in as well. To be honest, oranges are just the biz when I'm feeling that nasty nauseous/hungry feeling.

I've also bought a bag of limes as last time around I lived on fake mojitos (lime, and mint with soda water - no rum though ) and that seemed to help with the worst of the hunger pangs.
