Ive been delving around t'internet for info but it all seems rather contradictory so i thought id ask the wise ladies on here.

my dd was feeling a little poorly earlier this week late last week and had perked up rather a lot however when i have put her jimmies on this evening ive noticed 12 rather red raised spots on her hip and back (2 on the hip rest on her back) that look suspiciously chicken pox ish. Im not 100% that thats what it is as ive noone to consult right now. She hadnt noticed as wasnt itching so im just waiting to see how we're looking tomorrow HOWEVER sitting here on my own at 35 wks im obviously doing my own nut in - What if it is Chicken Pox? Im fairly sure i had them when i was younger but would it be any problem now for me to be exposed to my dd's (if she even has them?)

Does anyone have any solid info?
I shall go get a big bowl of coco pops and take a chill pill now (not a real one obviously!)

ty!

If it is, you can have your immunity checked by your GP I think.

you need to get your immuity checked.

if you have had it, and are immune, then relax and breathe easy, baby is in the best place and protected by you.

if not, then you might well need to be vaccinated before baby comes, and also hope that baby comes after the incubation period.

my DD2 cuaght chicken pox when I was 38wks pregnant with DD3..............I had never had it, tests confirmed this, and so I was given 4 injections to preotect me and her, which in fact never worked and so we both cuaght it, she being born with it, right on DD1 coming down with it.

DD3 has been left with an immune defiiancy, and both she and I, altho being re-vaccinated against it, still have no immunity and are constantly at risk from it.

now, this is worst case scenario obviously (almost, worst case is very poorly baby), so the likelyhood of that is very rare according to our paed, but it is possible so you really should get checked to be on the safe side.

if it helps, being 35wks is slightly better (unless your babies come early) as baby is more likely to bypass the incubation period (which is 10-21 days).

I hope all is ok, and your DD is ok

If it is chicken pox, do get checked, as SoupDragon suggested....it is a simple blood test.

You would want your midwife to know if you have been exposed....even if you have had them before, some people do get them more than once, so finding out if you are immune would be important. There is some slight risk if you developed chicken pox now, but more of a concern would be if you were to have it just prior to giving birth.

See what your dd looks like tomorrow....most likely you will see more spots if it is chicken pox, with some possibly starting to look blisterish (not a word, but you know what I mean!)

just to add...........if it turns out your DD does have CP, then you can ring the maternity unit on the weekend about getting your immunity checked, or just about any other worries. all mine was handled from the childrens unit as my DD2 was poorly enough to be admitted with hers, and so the maternity unit was rung by the childrens ward and sorted it (from the blood test to the vaccination).

and don;t be fobbed off, insist that someoen speaks to you properly about it. not least, just to allay your fears
