Am I being paranoid???

This is my third Pregnancy, unfortunately my first two ended with no baby for different reasons.
I'm now 16 weeks (which I am over the moon about getting this far) and have a midwife appointment tomorrow where she will listen for heartbeat and I'm so scared they won't find one.
I've bled a little with this pregnancy, but all was confirmed OK a couple of weeks ago - I just can't stop worrying that something's wrong - am I being paranoid?

dizzy ,so sorry to hear about your previous experiences. please try to remember that you've made it this far, there is every good reason for all to be well, but anyone would understand you worrying and feeling paranoid. Every time i go to the dr/mw (i'm 23 weeks), i get paranoid that something will be found to be wrong. in a way, i think it's natural.
please try not to worry, and let us know tomorrow that all is well
good luck.

Poor you and so sorry for your previous losses .It's only natural to feel paranoid after all that you've been through.Tell your midwife how you're feeling, perhaps you will be monitored more regularly, even if only to put your mind at rest. I do so hope all goes well for you this time

Dizzy, it's entirely natural to worry hun, am sure everything will be fine. I found that once I started to feel baby moving around it was hugely reassuring, until then you can sometimes feel like it's a dream. All the best for tomrw x

Its absolutely normal to feel anxious (((hugs)))
I am pregnant with twins (24 weeks) and have a DS who is nearly 3, I have never had any problems but still get anxious from time to time, I even got my midwife to come round and check for heartbeats between my 16 wk appointment and 20 wk scan as was worried something would be wrong!

Once you start feeling movements it gets easier (until you obsess about how many you are getting lol)

Congratulations and I hope all goes well x x

Thank you for all of your lovely messages, it does make me feel a lot more human to know other mums to be feel the same

I went to my appointment only to be told they don't check for heartbeat until my next appointment, I was so disappointed, as when it was booked the midwife said they check heartbeat at 16 weeks

I'm just going to wait until my scan in 4 weeks - it'll be a long 4 weeks though!!

WHilst I'm on, I was wondering if anyone decided against having the screening blood tests at 16 weeks - I decided not to have them and wondered what peoples thoughts were on them?

Hi. I have just had my booking-in appointment, am 12 weeks and not having the 12wk scan or the 16 wk bloods (triple test?). I'll have the regular blood tests though and the 20 week scan. The midwife was a bit surprised but took it okay. I did the same with my last pg too.

It is a bit nerve-wracking though as it is too early for them to listen for a heartbeat so I have to wait a few weeks too for reassurance. I think most of us worry whether all is okay, and especially if you have had previous difficult experiences. All the best - sounds like all is going well for you this time!

pushmepullyou · 08/05/2009 20:54

I was convinced all the way through my pregnancy that I wasn't going to end up with a baby (previous mc and bleeding up to 20 weeks).

My baby is 5 months old

I truly didn't believe she'd live/existed until the midwife plonked her on my stomach.

I think if you're a worrier you're a worrier. The only thing you can really do is remind yourself that its not necessarily realistic worrying!

Remember if you've got a heart beat at 8 weeks onwards you've got a 97% chance of coming home with a baby. Also if you've had bleeding and all has been confirmed OK then you are probably no more at risk than any other pregnancy. And that's pretty low at your stage

Please try not to worry too much. I'm sure it will all be fine

pushmepullyou · 08/05/2009 20:56

Just read your second post. i didn't have any of the tests. It wasn't really worth it for me as I knew that they wouldn't alter my decision as to whether to keep the pregnancy

dizzytrout · 12/05/2009 08:18

Same here, I know that whatever the results, I would go ahead with my pregnancy and I think if they came back high risk it would just be more to worry about. I've spoken to the midwife and she reassured me that lots of people choose not to have them for the same reasons xxx

Dizzy

Its normal to be anxious when they listen for the heartbeat for the first time and when you go to the 20 week scan where they check everything in such detail that you feel sure that they must find something wrong!

After the 20 week scan, you start feeling them moving and the anxiety reduces (in my experience anyway). Just being kicked from time to time really makes a difference to how confident you feel that the baby is OK.

Also as your baby gets towards 28/30 weeks, you are also reassured by the fact that if things did start to go wrong, they could get the baby out of there sharpish and it would survive.

Really, the next month or so is the most anxious time and I'm sure you'll feel better once you're the other side of the 16 week check and the 20 week scan.

Don't know if you can afford it - but one option is just to book yourself a private scan just to reassure yourself that all looks fine. i think it costs about £150, depending on where you live. it's expensive, but i've done it with one of my pregnancies - i felt it was better than weeks of anxiety.

dizzytrout · 13/05/2009 14:58

I'm feeling a lot better now, I think I can hold on until 20 week scan, only a few weeks left now. I have been feeling more flutternings in my tummy, which I'm sure are little baby movements, so I'm more reassured.
