Raspberry leaf tea - how do you disguise the taste?!

I have been trying to drink raspberry leaf tea, but I can't stand the taste! Does anyone else feel like this and how do you make it taste nice enough to actually drink a whole cup?!

I took the tablets instead (though I don't think it made abit of difference!).

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 29/04/2009 20:08

lots of sugar (or honey if you want to pretend you're being healthy!)

JackBauerkillspigs · 29/04/2009 20:12

You don't. It's grim. I was also told that you can never tell how much you are getting with tea as some people like it stronger/weaker so the tablets are safer, so I just took them. They stink too mind

andlipsticktoo · 29/04/2009 20:13

Yuk! I drank the tea with ds1 - loooonnng labour but quite short 3rd stage.

Took tablets with ds2 - speedygonzales delivery (45 mins from start to finish). Thinkk the tablets were more concentrated maybe?

Didn't bother with ds3, 7 hour labour inc 2 hour 3rd stage. (Mind you he was 10lb and half an oz!)

Didn't manage to disguise the taste of the tea with anythibg though, sorry! Get the tabs instead!

ilikeyoursleeves · 29/04/2009 20:14

Tablets all the way!

froggy16 · 29/04/2009 20:15

I didn't know you could get tablets! I shall try and get some, thank you!!

I contiuned to taken them after birth as i read it can help shrink uterus.

How many weeks are you? You cant take them before 36 weeks i think! I'm sure you know this so tell me to shut up!

Honey disguises the taste rather well, from what I have heard the tablets aren't as effective as loose leaf tea but I don't know why--

Alternatively you can buy it already in tea bags in a pink packet from places like holland & barrett. It tastes less grim that way.

boogeek · 02/05/2009 18:09

Somebody told me that if is tastes nasty to you then it won't work (and if you like it, it will do the trick for you). Sounds completely bonkers to me! I hate it, forced it down in my first pregnancy -- and had a 42 hour labour.
Second time round I took the tablets (still vile but at least not prolonged). 7 hours.
So on my own very scientific study - tablets for sure ;)

Picante · 02/05/2009 18:13

You can take it earlier, just as long as it's prescribed by a qualified herbalist. I've been taking it since 20 weeks (am now almost 25). My herbalist said the tea is far more effective than the tablets but will not induce contractions / labour until the body is ready. I took it from 30 weeks last time and went 10 days overdue.

LadyAga · 02/05/2009 21:52

I took it from 30 weeks but still went 12 days overdue and was induced.

I would put 5 tea bags in a big litre jug first thing in the morning and allow it to brew for a few hours. I would drink it throughout the day and leave the teabags in so it became more concentrated as the day went by. To disguise the taste I would add a little ribena or vimto squash and lots of ice.

Personally I think it was a waste of tome as I had a 25hour labour that ended in an emergency c-section.

SpaceTrain · 03/05/2009 19:45

Raspberry Leaf Tea won't have any effect on you going overdue or not. It only has effects on the second stage of labour.
