I think it might be normal as there is less room in there iyswim. However, I would say phone your mw and get checked out if there is any change to movements.

I'm 39 +3 and would say that movements are a lot less vigorous than they were 4 weeks ago and I was def aware of them slowing down. MW says that as long as you are still feeling some (is it 10 a day) then its fine. Its worrying, i know. I can't relax when I wake up till I have felt LO move. And a v cold drink usually does the trick.

tye · 29/04/2009 17:26

thak you both. i did try googling how many times baby should be moving but i got 2different answers one was 10times in 12hours the other 10times in 24 hours so wasnt to sure.

My dc3s movements slowed down at 39 weeks. I went in to be monitered and had an emergency c/s. He had lost a lot of blood and was oxygen deprived. If I hasn't gone to get checked out he would have died. I don't want to freak you out, everything is probably ok but I would phone the labour ward and tell them that you would like to be checked out if I were you.

FabulousBakerGirl · 29/04/2009 19:20

No no no no no no no

ANY change in baby's movements need to be checked.

You should be getting 10 in a 12 hour period.

My first baby changed his routine and it was not good.

madwomanintheattic · 29/04/2009 19:20

would like to add my voice to the 'get checked' crowd.

whostolemyname · 29/04/2009 19:39

DEFINETLY get checked out, phone the maternity unit straight away and they should see you this evening.

Im 37 weeks pregnant and iv noticed that baby isnt moving as much im still feeling him/her move but only slight movements. Is this because there isnt much room for baby to move now??

Shell xxx

FabulousBakerGirl · 01/05/2009 14:00

No

you should still be getting the same movements, you have asked about this before, has your midwife not seen you?

shellmc · 01/05/2009 15:29

Hi fabulousbakergirl

I have a post at the moment about itching, and i have just posted on there earlier that baby hasnt moved as much today, but i was at hosp this morning to have bloods taken for lfts and midwife did listen into baby and sed baby sounded fine, i was just wondering if it is common at later stages for movements not to be as strong??

Thanks xx

FabulousBakerGirl · 01/05/2009 16:26

Any change in movements need to be checked out whether it is more or less movements.

ladyjuliafish · 01/05/2009 18:55

Listening to the heartbeat for a minute or two isn't enough. You need to be continuously monitored for at least 30 mins. The continuous monitoring also picks up very small movements. I was on the monitor for 20 mins before anything unusual happened to ds's heartrate, although it did show before that that he wasn't moving as much as he should be.

tinierclanger · 01/05/2009 18:58

Get checked. This DID happen to me and the baby was fine, but get checked. My unit was great, let me self-admit several times in the last couple of weeks for monitoring and I am so glad they did, as it could have meant something serious.

FabulousBakerGirl · 01/05/2009 19:06

With my son the midwife listened to the heartbeat for 5 minutes and sent me home. Had gone to hospital as NO response from baby having previous being able to get him moving.

Baby born by emergency section the next day. Nearly died. Previous days trace "lost"...

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 01/05/2009 22:18

don't risk it - like bakergirl we very nearly lost our dd at 35 weeks when she stopped moving. You need to fuss and you need a decent period of fetal monitoring. If it's all ok then no harm done.

shellmc · 02/05/2009 17:56

Hiya,

After noticing babys movements slowing down, i rang the hospital and explained my concerns, she asked me to go up and to be on the monitor just to check, she sed it cud just be that baby is getting bigger and as lng as i was still feeling sum movements.
But i felt happier going up soo at least i knew, i was on monitor for just over an hour, baby had nice strong heartbeat and moving around, it was strange tho that wen baby was showing movement on the monitor i wasnt feeling them all. But the relief wen i heard the heartbeat and saw the movement, it was soo relieving.
Thanx for the advice xxxx

FabulousBakerGirl · 02/05/2009 17:57

Why do midwives still spout such crap?

You should still get 10 movements in 12 hours and any change needs checking.

They don't move less because there is less room.
They don't move less because they are bigger.
They don't move less because they are resting for the labour.

Tee2072 · 02/05/2009 18:04

I just want to point out that the movement does change as the baby begins to run out of room.

They don't move less, but they do move differently.

I spoke to my MW about this just recently. It does need to be 10 movements in 12 hours, but any movement counts. Small punches, big kicks, the sweeping feeling when they turn, etc.

If you feel less movements, then call your midwife.

If you feel less strong movements, there is really no reason to panic.

But if you are panicking? Do ring. That's what they are there for!!
