yes.
gaviscon (yuk)
and lots of remegel. because theyre quite yummy

I can't really help much more than that I'm afraid because I havent had it (yet) this time round. Last time I think I got it in the 2nd trimister and it pretty much continued throughout.

Whenever I am pg the heartburn starts bang on 14 weeks. Gaviscon makes me feel sick until I become so addicted to it that I fall back in love with its chalky taste...
Last night I ate a banana before bed and that really seemed to help. Apparently there is a reason for that - potassium (which bananas have lots of) is an ingredient in lots of antacids. Might be worth a shot.

Tummum · 29/04/2009 17:10

Milk can help settle your tummy & being careful what you eat as certain foods seem to be worse than others.

olivo · 29/04/2009 17:25

i take gaviscon and a glass of milk before i go to bed, it really helps. acidic things seem to make mine worse, especially fruit juice.

jeminthecity · 29/04/2009 17:26

I had a bottle of gaviscon by my bed, and took one to work with me, esp. in preg. no. 3

TamTam29 · 29/04/2009 17:27

I had it from straight away with DS1 as my MS was so bad but it didnt start till about 15 weeks this time round.

Best things I found are GAviscon ADVANCE (not the normal one) Make sure you get it on prescription.

Carry around water at all times and plenty of sugar free sweets/mints to suck on.

Milk seems to be good this time - i have a glass shortly before I go to bed, followed by a swig of gaviscon as my HB is worse in the night.

I also avoid hot drinks in the evening as they seem to make it worse too.

And greasy food this time round is far worse than spicy food!

Try to sit up and not recline too much in the evenings - good for getting baby into a good position too!

I find Rennies so much better than Gaviscon which I can't stand. I've got Ranitidine from the Dr but I think you can only take that after 12 weeks. I need to take a Ranitidine plus a Rennie to see any difference at all. I find refined carbs and sugar are my worst enemy. Anything wholemeal and with natural sugars seem to be okay. It is terrible so I sympathise!

YanknCock · 02/05/2009 22:20

I thought I was going to escape this particular pregnancy joy---lord knows I've put up with HG, SPD, and AND already.

I've never experienced heartburn in my life, so I wasn't quite sure what was happening to me last night! Had to wake DH up (he suffers from it regularly) and describe to him. Wonderful man gave me his stash of Rennies and went downstairs to get me a cup of milk. And said to wake him up again if I couldn't get back to sleep. I love him.

I reckon it was the taco seasoning mixed with cream cheese that I ate for dinner. At least, I really hope it was that, and this is not going to be an every night occurrence! Nearly 24 weeks now, maybe I'm lucky to have made it this far without it?

needsomesleepplease · 03/05/2009 00:07

I have had it in both pregnancies from day one, this one has been the worst - I have had to get ranitadine during both, but this time it has not been enough (heard the effectivness of ranatadine wears off the more you use it) went back to docs and i am now on omeprazole and it is def working better. Only 12 days to go thankfuly!!!

Go to docs and get it under control as it can make your life hell, good luck x

sleepymommy · 03/05/2009 00:14

Lots and lots of fullfat milk!

tanglefairy · 03/05/2009 14:59

I'm having EVIL heartburn too so thanks for the tips everyone I seem to be having it instead of morning sickness this time..not sure which is worse lol!

jstock · 04/05/2009 23:39

fruit chewing gum was my saviour!! (trident splash)

I wanted to put my hand down my throat and rip the burn out!! I tried all sorts, raw carrots, milk, gaviscon did nothing for me, rennie blocked me up and the only thing that worked in the end was the chewing gum.

god bless trident!!

happyjules · 05/05/2009 00:03

I have suffered with heartburn in both pregnancies.
I find gaviscon too gloopy and makes me wretch, normal chalkey indigestion tablets I find foul, but find rennie soft chews really quite pallatable and not at all chalky.
Oh and I don't want to be a party pooper but take some relief with you into hospital as it may take several days after to calm down. Good luck

LissyGlitter · 05/05/2009 00:04

I remember having to stay in hospital while I was pg with dd and they wouldn't let me swig from my bottle of gaviscon! I had to wait for the drugs round and take a small amount then! The bastards!
