Morning sickness or lack of ... a tell tale sign of gender?

so how many of you believe in this thoery that if you have very little/no morning sickness then you are likely to be having a boy and if you you are very sick you are more likely to having a girl?

I only felt a little neuseaus for about 10 days and everyone I met says 'oh it must be a boy' plus all my friends who have had boys were not sick either.
Two of my friend's mums are midwives and they say the same....

my mum was sick everyday for 5 months with me!! poor woman oh how she suffered (48 hour labour, me 10bls 2 oz!! that's another story!)

what do you think?

Both my pregnancies were the same in amount & timing of sickness & resulted in one boy and one girl - so I don't believe any of it...

PinkTulips · 28/04/2009 17:33

dd - violently ill

ds1 - barely ill at all

ds2 - so incredibly sick i lost weight from the vomiting

so no help there then, however i did get acne with both my boys and not with dd... only gender differance with my pregnancies tbh, in most other ways dd and ds2 were alike and ds1 was the odd one out

PurlyQueen · 28/04/2009 17:53

I had mild nausea but no vomiting with ds.

Nekabu · 28/04/2009 17:59

No ms and should (unless scans prove very wrong!) be having a girl, nor did I have bad skin or hair. Well, hair no worse than usual ...

ChasingSquirrels · 28/04/2009 18:10

me: really bad morning sickness both times - 2 boys
my mum: really bad morning sickness both times - 1 boy / 1 girl

friends with v little ms: mixture of girls and boys

I am inclined to think it is more related to genetics than on gender of the baby you are carrying.

TheCrackFox · 28/04/2009 18:24

DS1 = really bad morning sickness

DS2 = nothing. Was the perfect pregnancy.

CompareTheMeerkat · 28/04/2009 18:24

Horribly sick with both DS and DD

ben5 · 28/04/2009 18:27

i wasn't sick but i was around horrible smells. i've got 2 boys

duckyfuzz · 28/04/2009 18:31

I had no ms and had twin girls

prettyfly1 · 28/04/2009 19:07

seriously bad hyperemesis with last pregnancy- boy.

stillenacht · 28/04/2009 19:08

No morning sickness at all with both of my DSs. My mum had ms with all three DDs.

stillenacht · 28/04/2009 19:10

Have also heard that if you are carrying boys you are more randy with all the testosterone floating about.....

My friend who has a DD said she was def more up for it in her pg with her DS than her DD.

BikeRunSki · 28/04/2009 21:16

I was hospitalised for six weeks with hyperemisis and had a boy. Sorry.

feedthegoat · 28/04/2009 21:20

I was so sick in the first 3 months that I lost a stone and had a boy.

SuzeMcG · 28/04/2009 21:26

I had no morning sickness at all and had a girl.

sissy0928 · 28/04/2009 21:28

I'll add in, I was super sick with DD1, she is now 13...thought I had the flu before I knew it was a baby! This time around, I'm queasy, but not physically losing my lunch. Also with my daughter, I would've eaten the house if I were allowed, this time I have no appetite hardly at all! Not sure what this one is, but it will be interesting to see if the difference is due to gender or just a different baby, plus I'm much older now....

Womba1 · 28/04/2009 21:28

I didn't feel sick at all with my pregnancies and have one of each!

mrswee · 29/04/2009 09:10

Looks like there may be nothing in it at all!

But if Girls steal your beauty like jafina says .... then well I look a lot rougher than I feel! so much for yummy mummy!

I had no sickness or anything at all the first time. I had a boy.
I was nearly dying with the morning sickness the second time, all day most days. Ihad a boy.

lilymolly · 29/04/2009 09:19

mild nausea with dd

hyperemesis resulting in admission to hospital for a drip with ds

So I totally turn that theory upside down!!

RaspberryBlower · 29/04/2009 09:21

No sickness at all and had a girl. Don't think there is any link at all.

awayfromhome · 29/04/2009 09:22

Haven't read the whole thread, but I had no morning sickness with my dd, and felt absolutely rubbish for the first 16 weeks with my ds!

littlelamb · 29/04/2009 09:23

I think it's purely coincidental. Having said that, I was sick as a dog with dd for a good 5 months, couldn't keep a thing down. With ds, I felt slightly nauseous for one day. I believed the old wives tales and it turned out to be true. Both very different pregnancies. I won't be having a third to test the theory though

Cadmum · 29/04/2009 09:27

I would tend to agree as I was very, very ill with the two dds and only mildly nauseous by comparison with the dss.

(The one thing, in my case that made me wonder was carrying twin boys and being sicker and more tired than with the girls...)

I have a few friends who have never even felt mildly ill with either girls or boys. I think that it is likely a wives' tale that works out for some of us.
