Placenta praevia totalis at 12 weeks, what do you think? Any chance it'll move? Reassurance would be nice...

Dr number 1 says yes, it might move. Dr number 2 says no way, not if it's totalis. Which it is.

I want to believe doctor number 1, but I'm naturally a pessimist, I think. But I want to fly home for a bit before the baby comes, and I don't want a c-section...

Anybody any experience?

As I understand it at 12 weeks the placenta covers up to 50% of the uterus, so there is a pretty good chance of it being low or covering the os on that scan. My midwife (who I really trust) says that it is becoming more and more common for women to be told that their placenta is low at this stage, whereas such a thing would not have been noticed in the old days.

I have no personal experience but I am told that they often move up, even after covering the os. It is just not worth worrying about just yet, I think.

Ooh thanks Mrs H, sorry for disappearing - I bumped thread and then went and actually did some work

Your midwife sounds reassuring - no need to cancel all our plans just yet, then.

12 weeks sounds very early to make any sort of blanket statement to me. Mine was diagnosed as completely covering at 20 weeks and I was still given a 50/50 chance of it moving. It didn't but that's another story! Don't worry about it till at least after your next scan.

Ah bless you Rek... See you are already on the advice bandwagon!!!!! You go girl!!!

Mangolassi... The chances of it moving up at 12 weeks is massive!!! Mrshappy is right that over half of placentas cover the OS at 12 weeks.

Even the doctors (normally) dont start worrying until 32 weeks (unless you have bright red blood before that)

I would put it to the back of your mind and not worry at all. Enjoy your pregnancy for now keep us informed though xx
