My DH is fab in all ways but hates the baby moving it grosses him out!! I don't mind, but sometimes get upset, as this is last baby and want him to get just as excited as me he will touch but if it wriggles too much- he moves his hand as quick as anything!! Is this normal or do you have any tips of encouraging him as I don't want him to regret it in the future--IYKWIM????

My DH didn't like touching my bump and wasn't ever too keen on seeing the baby wriggle. IMO there's not much point making an issue of it - just leads to both of you feeling bad.

Congratulations on your pregnancy

OH doesnt have a problem but i find it repulsive which OH thinks is hilarious. im not a squeamish person but the thought of another human insid me freaks me out. i cant even think about it at times. btw, we are really happy to be having a baby.

How about encouraging DH to talk to the baby while laying close to you with his mouth and his hand on the bump?

I think I am right in saying the lower frequencies of a man's voice travel very well through water (like whale song) and the baby may well respond. I used to like doing this and felt more connected if I could talk to the bump. It helped that we knew the sex and had already chosen a name. I used to talk to both DS1 and DS2 in the womb as if I was talking to a child who had been already been born.

Without that I must admit I would have felt more like there was 'just a thing' moving inside my wife which I might well have found a bit strange.

My DH used to talk to the babies, but didn't appreciate being kicked in the back by them during the night!

Lizzylou · 27/04/2009 12:03

DH didn't want to touch my bump or feel the baby moving at all, with either pg's.
It used to upset me tbh, but he was a fab, supportive birth partner and is an amazing Father, so I just about forgive him

Effielou · 27/04/2009 12:05

makes a change from us being poked in the back by them!!!!!!lol

He talks to it ( we don't know what it is) and aims for my belly button, as he thinks it will hear him more!!! So its not too bad but I love the baby moving apart from when it uses my bladder as a trampoline in the middle of the night!!

I felt like this with just one of my pgs, I allowed myself a thought about Alien andit stuck, I just couldn't shake the feeling after that. It actually made me feel sick when it started moving around lots later on. Of course I knew it was all in my head and that I had to keep a lid on it so I never really told anyone. I was fine in my following pgs

heartmoonshadow · 27/04/2009 17:30

I am so glad others have the same issues, my DH is paranoid about the lump. He does not like it at all and refuses to go anywhere near it! He is very excited about having the baby and is busy sorting out the room but is unhappy about my pregnant belly. It doesn't help that at 28 weeks no-one else but me or the cat can feel the baby move outside the womb!

He even said the other day that it reminded him of a balloon that was about to pop and he has an irrational fear of balloons.

If does make cuddling quite a feat though, he does tell me he loves 'us' but wants 'us' to be in two bodies not one!

booyhoo · 27/04/2009 17:37

kingcanute glad im not the only one. my best friend thinks im strange, never felt like this with ds1 but i think the whole thing feels abnormal. dont want to upset others though so wont go on.

MadamAnt · 28/04/2009 18:10

DH is fine with it, but I (pg with DC3 ) had a sudden episode of squeamishness after this baby had its first spate of major acrobatics.

I felt a bit like this

Hawkmoth · 29/04/2009 08:52

DP has been fine except when baby was kicking out below the hairline. Apparently that part of my body isn't supposed to move like that!

His ExW wouldn't let him touch or look at her PG/moving belly so he's fascinated, thankfully. I find the downward kicks to my pelvic floor particularly wearing.

PortoPandemico · 29/04/2009 08:54

My DH never wanted to feel the baby kick. I found itmade me quite sad at the time. He's been an excellent dad ever since though.
