ok i have recently found out that i am pregnant . I weigh alot ,13 stone 12, and i have been sort of dieting for a while . I would like to continue ,no more than 2lbs a week and more like 1lb a week loss if possible ,just for a few more months till i get to 12 stone something ,would stop in 3rd trimester and try to maintain weight but will accept gain as normal . Can i just add that what i eat to lose weight ,is probably what most size ten people eat normally eg toast with marmite or all bran and banana for breakfast ,salad with tuna or ham for lunch and then chicken or fish with veggies or pasta for tea . what do you all think honestly

I don't think that what you describe you are eating is what most size 10 people eat. It sounds hardly anything to me. I am a tall 10/12 (usually lol) and would be starving if that was all I ate.

I would aim to maintain the weight you are now throughout your pg. You should be eating 2000 calories a day and I don't think you are.

Please please don't try dieting while pregnant, in fact if at all possible don't even consider your weight while pregnant (OK so they force you on to the scales at some point but you don't have to look!) Seriously, it is extremely detrimental to the baby and to you. I was about a size 8-10 with dd1 and I guess I put on about 4 and a half stone. OK so it sounds a lot, but to be honest, just over a year after the birth I am back to the size I was before I was pg with her. I just breastfed and continued to eat a lot, and I found that I didnt really lose weight until after I stopped breastfeeding (contrary to popular belief that breastfeeding helps you lose weight!) your body instinctively needs reserves and will make you eat more than you would usually while pregnant or feeding a child. Don't try to fight it, just go with it. You're making a person!!

All I would say is that you won't be losing weight into your 3rd trimester unless you are seriously depriving the baby and yourself nutritionally. Baby, placenta, fluid etc all weigh a lot. It would be completely unnatural and unhealthy. Just try and have a nutritious diet and not eat a load of junk every day (read, 5 mars bars or daily tubs of ben and jerrys and family size pizzas for lunch)Anything else is fine. If you find that you are craving 'bad'ish food, then it could be that your body needs a particular nutrient. It is therefore important to take regular vitamin supplements, and eat a sensible not too sugary diet (as you would be at higher risk of gestational diabetes). Don't weigh yourself until baby is safely out!

Preaching over!

bumpsoon I think your diet sounds healthy and balanced, i'm a healthy size 12 (11 stone and 5'10'') and that's more or less the kind of things I eat plus I snack on loads of fruit through the day and take my vitamins. Am only 8 weeks but am conscious not to use this as an excuse to eat thousands of doughnuts!!

I'd check with your doctor but that kind of diet sounds ok to me!
