Hi,

I've just eaten a Cornetto - am I right in thinking that this is fine to eat when pregnant (I'm 31 weeks)?

Is it mainly home made ice cream and Mr Whippy vans which one should aviod?

Thanks!

A cornetto is fine! have another one

Kingsroadie · 24/04/2009 15:30

Hope so - I have been eating loads of it (am almost 8 weeks). I was assuming it is all pasteurised, and was actually just about to buy another one now!

IrishMaeve · 24/04/2009 15:31

Thanks, God it was lovely!!

Cornettos yum!!! yes they are fine-- and your right about Mr Whippy!!!

My Mum had bought a brie and bacon quiche round and had to eat some- with fear of being deamed ungrateful!! But it says in the books that although there are risks- its unlikely that it will happen- but after she went hubby ate the rest!!!

When baby is here-- bring on the stilton!

lal123 · 24/04/2009 15:45

I think you can get pasteurised brie which is fine?? Hmmmmm brie and bacon

Effielou · 24/04/2009 15:47

I'm hungry now-- and really want a runny fried egg!!!!

Kingsroadie · 24/04/2009 15:47

Have just eaten a strawberry cornetto. mmm brie and bacon! Isn't the other problem with brie though that the outside is mould ripened (even if the actual cheese is pasteurised?)

BeckyBendyLegs · 24/04/2009 15:54

Right after reading this thread for tea tonight I am having:
Pasteurized brie and bacon baguette
Runny egg on the side
Strawberry cornetto for tea!

Yummy!

Effielou · 24/04/2009 15:57

LMAO!!!! hehehehehe don't forget pate and liverand bacon washed down with a large glass of vino!!

IrishMaeve · 24/04/2009 15:58

I thought brie would be okay if it is cooked?

8 more weeks to go and then the worries of baby-killing food are so much less

Liver and bacon?? Do you want to bring on the MS? I used to have to eat that as a child with very, very boiled cabbage and boiled potatoes. Yuck!

A nice glass of vino would be nice in theory except at 10 weeks I can't even watch people drink wine on the TV never mind in real life!

Effielou · 24/04/2009 16:07

I must admit- I hate liver too!!!! And have gone off wine-- which is unlike me!! But it tastes sooo good when you finially do have one!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 24/04/2009 16:29

I do miss liking and wanting to drink wine and it is Friday night I'd usually be partaking in a glass or two but instead it is grapefruit juice tonight or milk. Yum.

I remember last time I gave birth waking up in hospital in the morning and after getting over how lovely it was to have a baby thinking how wonderful I felt being able to eat toast for breakfast without horrible indigestion following and just feeling so normal in the digestive department. It was wonderful.

Effielou · 24/04/2009 16:32

After my first baby I sent my mum on a search for a pate sarnie-- It was bliss!!! And the toast is the best ever!!!

Newb · 24/04/2009 16:51

I have various friends briefed to bring me the following when in hospital:

  • pate and french bread mmmmmm
  • brie and stilton
  • some kind of vodka based cocktail - likely in an innocuous looking lemonade bottle.

Also will be middle of July so will have to eat it all at once or it's gonna smell pretty bad!

IrishMaeve · 24/04/2009 16:57

Pate and champagne, yum yum ...

Ahhh, I've got Gestational Diabetes so now added to my previous list of Stilton, Chorizo, Salami, copious amounts of Wine and Pate, I'm adding Chocolate, Biscuits and Cakes.

So much for eating what you want when you're PG . I'll have 5 easter eggs and 2 massive boxes of chocs waiting for me when I get home too - our little one will be having chocolate breast-milk for weeks!!!

DeathbyDora · 24/04/2009 17:34

My doc mentioned that if you buy the eggs stamped with the lion symbol it means the hens were vaccinated against salmonella so it's ok to have them runny. Not sure if that's the general rule.

Currently living in the US where every single bottle of any alcoholic drink and every restaurant/cafe has a big sign up saying "The surgeon general recommends that pregnant women DO NOT drink any alcohol during pregnancy". Would be too scared to order a glass of wine even if I fancied one!!!
