hayfever meds when preggers

Last summer I was breastfeeding and went to the doctor to get meds, but was told he could not guarantee any of them for breastfeeding mums. I figure he was probably being extra cautious. Is anyone else taking anything that has been recommended? I am really suffering!

I was told to take Piriton cos preg (not my usual hayfever med). Took just one and had fainting fit/nausea - unheard of before or since so must have been the tablet.
I sympathise but if you can avoid, do.

Thanks guys. Am really suffering at the moment but going to try vaseline on my nose and tracking down some local honey to see if that works. If not - chlorphenamine it is!

I have just bought a neti pot (google them/try ebay for good value) to try, but I'm still waiting for it to be delivered. The reviews are certainly encouraging for helping people with allergies that affect the nose/eyes. I used to live on anti-histamines before I was pg, but have cut them all out again this time and just "live" with my stuffy nose. I'll update here when I get it and use it.

I used to suffer from chronic rhinitis and before I was pregnant, I took hayfever meds EVERY day for about 15 years!

When I found out I was pregnant, I stopped taking them, suffered a few weeks of hell and then discovered pollen which is apparently safe for pregnancy and breast feeding.

My two year old now takes this regularly too and it has really made a difference.

My doc said no to any tablets but has given me eye drops and a nose inhaler to treat the symptoms. They really seem to be helping.

I am 17 weeks pregnant and my GP has also prescribed chlorphenamine. I havent taken it yet though as im scared about the drowsiness effect and the fact that you have to take it 4 times a day. With normal hayfever tablets you only need to take it once a day. I am also worried that it might affect me when driving.

But leningrad i note that it didnt make you drowsy. Will give it a go if the hayfever gets really bad....

Have a glass of elderflower cordial in the morning. It's drug free and will help. Honest! Non-drowsy, drug free. Give it a try before the drugs.
