Untreated urine infection - due date tomorrow - Feel let down by NHS!

Hello

nearly one month ago they sent my urine sample to the lab as I may have infection. After one month and one day before my due date (I will be induced tomorrow) I receive a letter telling me that I need antibiotic and to get them from my GP. Obviously I will probably not get an appointment with GP for a few days.

Do you know if having urine infection for so long this late in pregnance is dangerous?

I feel so let down by the NHS. I missed an antenatal class because they failed to tell me that it was in a different hospital. I also missed a 38 week consultant appointment because the letter never arrived. How can I remain relaxed about labour seeing how things work? What a lack of competence...

First things first - Call your GP explain the situation and how close you are to your due date - They will prob fit you in as an emergency so you should be seen fairly rapidly - The fact that your appointment is an emergence one does NOT mean that you should be worried.

Will your GP just write a prescription since you have a definite diagnosis already? Presume they will have done a cultural sensitivity test so they'll know which AB to prescribe.

If you can take them medication now it won't matter as much seeing an actual doctor.

I would be minded to ring your MW team to see what they have to say as well.

Good luck.

Yes, in fact given the sample has already been cultured, the GP may be able to do the prescription without seeing you - mine can send prescriptions direct to a local chemist to be picked up.

AFAIK the main problem with UTIs is they can bring on early labour, so that's not a problem for you if you're being induced tomorrow. Otherwise, it's just the normal unpleasantness of having had an infection for so long.

Good luck for tomorrow (I was supposed to be induced today but no room )
