Worried about farm visit

Hello, I'm new here and hoping someone can help with this question. I went to one of those children's farms yesterday and there were signs up saying don't touch the sheep and lambs - so I didn't. But I did walk through a barn with sheep and lambs in it. Then when I came home I looked up on the internet why not to touch them and have been reading all about this disease that causes miscarriage and stillbirth. I'm terrified about catching something. I'm 30 weeks pregnant, it's my 3rd and sadly my first ended with the baby dying at birth so I'm perhaps a bit more anxious than normal. If I didn't touch anything should I be worried? I also made sure that we all washed our hands a lot. Thanks in advance if you can help me to put this out of my mind!

Sorry to hear about your first baby

think those infections are pretty rare even in the sheep and the advice is more to stop women helping with the actual lambing....

nhs page makes the risk sound minimal especially if you didn't even touch them

hope the rest of your pregnancy goes ok

If it helps any, I went to a farm today at 22 weeks. I was good and didn't touch the sheep, and I washed my hands thoroughly anyway. The risk is fairly minimal (even with contact), so I've made up my mind not to worry.

I think if you didn't touch them and washed your hands a lot, you have done what you needed to do, so try not to worry.

(I went on one of those visits while PG with DD2, because it was a birthday party and I didn't really feel I could stop DD1 from going. I read up on it at the time, and avoiding contact and washing lots were the things I remember.)

Thanks ladies - this does help a lot. The worrying is probably worse for me than coming within a few feet of a sheep! I have been trying to tell myself that if it was that big a risk they wouldn't even let pregnant women visit in the first place, and farmers would never have children

"if it was that big a risk they wouldn't even let pregnant women visit in the first place, and farmers would never have children "

Absolutely! That keeps it in perspective.

Sazzlet, I'm preggers with my second and only 11 weeks but have been to two farms so far (in the last two weeks!). I'm not being reckless but my parents were visiting from overseas - their first time in 7 years - and my dad loves farms (they don't have it where they come from) so we went to two. I made everyone keep a couple of feet from the sheep and to wash their hands thoroughly after contact with any animals. From what I know, the risk is highest in the first trimester cos of the risk of m/c. Like the others said, the risk is very minimal, you just have to be sensible about it. I am sure everything will be fine. You sounded like you took all the right precautions...
