nursery paint

Is it OK to paint the nursery in the weeks preceeding the birth? Planning to paint around 3-4 weeks before due date with emulsion. Was worried that paint might be harmful to baby when it arrives. Any ideas?

are you planning on putting the baby straight into the nursery??

guidelines recommend having baby in with you for at least 6 months, so if you're doing that you'll be fine to paint the nursery

We did, we used very low VOC paint (the least harmful kind, VOC content is written on the paint pots) and let it air well just in case.

We kept dd in with us for the first 9 months anyway so the nursery was only used for nappy changes to begin with!

we would like to use the nursery asap but it's our first so not sure how that will work out. Do you think it's too dangerous to paint so close to the birth then?

thanks,

what I meant to say was that we intend to put the baby in the nursery to sleep (moses basket initially) and then move to our room, so baby gets used to falling asleep in nursery. Again, it's all hypothetical as we really have no clue as to what we're doing!

We used the low-VOC paint about 6 weeks before the birth of my last baby. He was born prematurely so we didn't expect to have so little time left. I think even with low VOC you are advised not to breathe it in a lot as a pregnant woman/newborn and so I'd get someone else to do it and the packaging on ours warned to keep it well ventilated in the first few days and avoid spending hours in there. It was several weeks before he slept in his room and then only for a nap. To be honest, during the day we had the moses basket downstairs as it was easier and then we'd carry him up to our room at bedtime. I don't think your baby would notice which room they were in - he or she will probably only associate sleep with the moses basket (which would be what you were wanting I am guessing?).
