Lower abdominal pain when standing after lying/sitting down

I am sure this is completely normal so before I go and ask a medical bod can anyone reassure me.

When I sleep at night or sit for prolonged periods of time when I get up I have pain in either of the lower portions of my body - under bump sort of where my ovaries would be ish. Anyway it is agony at night especially as I wake up needing the loo.

I am doing all the things I was told - sleeping on left, pillow under bump, pillow behind me to stop me rolling and one between knees - such an attractive sight!!

Anyway anyone any ideas.

Thanks

How far along are you? I am full term now and constantly straining the muscles/ligaments under the bump in just the way you describe. If it's that, you need to avoid lifting anything, adopting any awkward postures, pushing heavy trolleys, and try not to use those muscles to pull you up to a sitting position - i.e. roll up from lying down.

I can strain mine just walking along now though. Sigh - was so fit and healthy in the other pgs.

Hi I am 26 weeks - my concern is that as child I had clicky hips so I just don't want to risk dislocating - it is all a bit far fetched I know hence I just wondered if it is normal.

I think you may need to ask someone about SPD as I'm guessing you'd be high risk for it if you had clicky hips.

As you're not that far on and shouldn't be that knackered yet(!) I'd ask your mw for a physio referral.

Hopefully someone knowledgeable about SPD will be along in a minute.

Hi, i have just been diagnosed with SPD, i am 27 weeks and i have been having pains in the same area and also in my bottom. I thought i was just happening to be so unfit that i was pulling the muscles under and around my bump but it turns out it's SPD.

I would speak to your midwife and if needed she will send you to a physio as the earlier you catch SPD the better and then you can try to control the movements.

It's awful at night and turning in bed is almost unheard of now ... roll on July! Sigh.

Hi

I popped to see midwife today and she said it is probably normal stretching of the ligaments as I am now getting some twinging pains across the top of my uterus too. I have another appointment in 2 weeks if it is still the same then I will push for SPD diagnosis.

Thanks for all your advice ladies

Hi, I had spd with ds (8wks old) - I bught a belly band from mothercare - a bit belt with velcro which supported the bump a bit and helped me get around (about £10).

Might be worth a try.
