It's awful isn't it I can't sleep haven't for weeks I am living off a few hours a night at the moment. Due in 2 weeks and this seems to have been the longest pregnancy ever! There is a lot of info on the net with pregnancy related tinnitus I would never have put them together but the body is a strange thing. Be good to hear some positive stories to put both our minds at rest. Do you only hear the noise at night or in quiet rooms during the day? How are you coping. I live with radios on at the minute which distracts me. Xx

Number3cometome · 30/01/2015 08:54

It is there all day long, if I put my fingers in my ears I can hear it.
If I notice it, I hear it more if that makes sense!

I don't go to bed until I am really tired, which is usually late, have a mini panic that I can hear about it then fall asleep.

I got the aching jaw again last night, so fully expecting the noise to pipe up later.

I find laying on my partner's chest helps as his heart beat distracts me from the noise. I also read you can buy White Noise hearing aids which basically mimic normal background noise, I may invest if it gets worse.

I am going to make an appointment to get my ears syringed and see if that helps - have you tried? x

I find I am always monitoring the sound by putting my fingers in my ears, I really need to stop doing this as like you I notice it more if I listen for it. I have had my ears checked by an audiologist and and ent and there is no sign of ear wax etc so I wouldn't get my syringed. If your jaw is aching it could be that which is your cause do you grind your teeth or notice you clench your jaw? This can cause an on set of tinnitus. Hopefully it is just pregnancy related which would be the simple solution for the both of us. It's such a nuisance definitely do not want to have to learn to live with it like many people have to. X x

Number3cometome · 30/01/2015 10:38

I don't grind my teeth, but I do clench my jaw when I am anxious.

I find if I lay on one side my jaw falls open in my sleep and it locks out, that makes me wake up with jaw pain and then perhaps causes the ringing?

I was laying on my back, but was told not to do that now x

amy166 · 30/01/2015 21:05

Could be. If the noise doesn't settle speak to your gp about seeing an ENT they should be able to confirm the cause. Be mindful being pregnant they might not be able to help straight away but if it persists after the pregnancy there will be lots that can be done to help you. I have already booked to see my ENT again in March in case my tinnitus does not settle after the birth. X

Hey ladies!! I am 4-5 weeks pregnant and I woke up this morning at 4AM with a beeeeep sound in my left ear. I immediately started freaking out. Then thankfully I found this thread. Should I make a doctors appointment? Is it normal for pregnant women to experience this ? My first pregnancy I got PUPS rash and got induced at 37 weeks. I started googling and I really dont want to go deaf lol helppppppp

Did anyone's clear up during pregnancy? Particularly the lady who put the original post? Mines driving me bonkers

Kim240687 · 07/02/2019 14:27

Island72, did yours go my lovely?

Abd1984 · 02/03/2019 19:21

Hi ladies, this tinitius is happening to me. It started at 14 weeks and had it for almost three weeks. I can't sleep, don't feel like eating and I'm off work. My GP seems to want to treat me for anxiety suggesting antidepressants but I was absolutely fine until this intense ringing came on overnight a few weeks ago. It is constant and changes from quiet to loud throughout the day that makes it hard to concentrate on anything. I'm off work and it's affecting me as I'm very low. I'm trying to be referred again to ENT who initially thought it was due to sinistis. Has anyone had any joy with ENT, medication, treatment? I really don't know how I'm going to cope over the next 23 weeks. Any help, advice or support appreciated xx

Abd1984 · 02/03/2019 19:22

How is yours? How are you coping? X

Leanneoffour · 22/09/2019 16:53

I did anyone get better after delivery

amy166 · 13/10/2019 22:33

In regards to the last 2 posts on this thread. My tinnitus didn’t go after giving birth. After having it for so many years now I generally cope better than I did in the beginning. If your struggling keep back ground noise on low I use to have the radio on constantly. The more you focus on it the worse it feels.

Rupsi · 19/10/2020 21:35

Hi, I think I have conceived could be 6th week, I haven't tested yet, but since 4th week I have started getting a buzzing sound in my right ear, could it be due to pregnancy ?

Mum2be00 · 18/01/2021 19:27

Anyone suffering with this now? Iv just created a post it's driving me mad 😫

island72 · 05/08/2021 21:15

Hi I wanted to update you all eventually, because some ladies do still reach out to me, which I am also happy to answer. So my daughter is 12 and whilst the tinnitus did not subside straight away, life did go back to normal over time. It took around 18 months if I am honest for my brain to tune out the tinnitus noise but now I only hear a noise if I listen out for it. If I hear any noise I feel no anxiety. I went on to have another child 8 years later and had no ear issues. Tinnitus has not featured in my life at all for many years now, so even if you are reading this pregnant, and times are tough for you, you will come out the other end.

Hi everyone! Did anyone’s tinnitus go after birth? I’m 29 weeks and have had mine 6 weeks and it’s driving me insane :(

RuBaby · 21/12/2021 17:22

Hi everyone! I started with tinnitus at 23 weeks and now I’m 33 weeks and still have it severe. I feel like it’s ruining my life :( did it go for anyone after birth??

GrowBabyGrow · 21/12/2021 22:07

@RuBaby I'm still pregnant so can't speak to how it is after birth but I have had tinnitus since I was a teenager. I know it is really really annoying but my top tip (hard as it sounds) is to not focus on it. My ENT dr says focusing on it strengthens the pathways in the brain and can make the sound seem louder. I also find white noise very helpful especially at night as it helps me to tune it out. I really hope it is just temporary for you and eases after birth but hope this is helpful in the meantime x

Hi @RuBaby ,

After years, did your tinnitus stop after delivery?

Hi @island72

Was your T eustachian blockage related? Did you have any hearing loss?

island72 · 11/09/2022 21:46

@Svg Hi for me there was no eustachian blockage or hearing loss. Best wishes, Mary.
