34 weeks preg and stabbing pain down low in belly

I've had a sharp stabbing pain down low on the right hand side of my belly for the past hour (almost right at underneath of bump). Also, baby who is usually very active has not been moving much at all today. Does this sound like something I should worry about? Don't want to call the midwife or hospital if it is just usual pregnancy niggles.

Is it a bit like stitch? I had something similar at 34 weeks, called the midwife and she thought it was ligament pain. The pain was so bad I couldn't walk and was in the place you describe. Googled it and that was exactly what it was. Have you had a cup of tea and some chocolate or a really cold drink to test baby's movement?

SpaceTrain · 13/04/2009 16:11

Yes, it's a bit like a stitch. Am rinking some iced water at the moment but baby not moving. I can feel it's bum under my ribs though.
Might have a cup of tea too to see if that eases things, but no more chocolate - have had enough after Easter!!
Thanks for your reply.

Call your midwife if you're at all worried - best to be reassured than worry yourself silly! I've phoned a few times and been in to have baby monitored - felt a bit silly but it was worth it for the relief. x

Thanks MsG. Have googled on ligament pains after ladyhelen's answer and it seems like that is what it is. Have probbaly just overdone it this weekend and need a rest. If I'm still in pain tomorrow will call the midwife (would rather spend a workday getting monitored than a bank holiday evening!).

Think Mrs G is right especially if baby not moving. Give your on call MW a ring.

SpaceTrain · 13/04/2009 16:36

I just got a huge kick then! But as I've also got stabbing pains in my cervix I might give the midwife a call just to be sure all is OK.
Thanks to both of you for your responses.

Phew. Glad you got a kick! Hope it is the ligament pain. I had it after a session at the gym so its prob related to overdoing it, but it can't hurt to get some reassurance from the professionals. Take care.

Hi I am 33 weeks and got this pain yesterday it was awful like stitch .
Baby was quiet too and then started moving a lot at night .

The pain seems to happen to me if I am on my feet a lot .

Sorry to lower the thread but have you moved your bowels recently? According to my mw one of the most common causes of pain is bowel spasms, even round at the front, apparently.

MsG · 13/04/2009 19:23

Glad you got a kick. I hate it when the baby goes quiet for ages!!

Hope the pain goes soon - let us know. x

Haven't had any problems with my bowels Tess. Been going regularly, but the pain didn't start after a movement or when one was due.

Had a nice long soak int he bath and that eased the pain lot, but I got loads of sparkly flashes in my vision for about 5 mins when in the bath even though the water wasn't too hot.

I had a lot of these stitch like pains with ds2. After he was born the physio told me that my stomach muscles had separated and asked if I'd had any pains like that during my pregnancy. Rest sounds like a good plan!!

tessofthedurbervilles · 13/04/2009 20:27

call your mw and talk to her, the flashing lights can be pre eclampsia I think so they might want to check you out.
Its a few minutes to check take you bp test your wee and better to check...

SpaceTrain · 13/04/2009 20:32

Spoke to the MW and she said to rest and have an early night and see how I feel in the morning.
Sounds like a good plan

Rozzy - ouch at stomach muscles separating. Have you had any ongoing issues as a result of that?
