Are they assigned to a particular midwife?

Just that the helpline has told me I can pick one up from the gps and get my midwife to sign it but the mw at the gps who has the forms says she can't do that cos the forms are assigned to her personally and she has to see me to sign it.

She's wrong. She doesn't have to see you sign it. She fills out her bits, gives it to you, you fill out your bit, and send it along.

I got mine from my actual GP, not a MW.

Basically I've got an IM (who doesn't have the forms yet) and the GP doesn't have any forms cos they hardly see anyone pg.

The community mw at the surgery who I saw at 8 weeks won't leave a form for me to collect for my IM to sign cos she reckons the forms are assigned to her personally. She also won't sign it unless I make an appointment with her for the 28 week appointment.

Craft, I think what she might be getting at is that 'technically' you have to have had a chat about healthy eating etc before the form is signed, although can't see why your IM can't do it all tbh! Do you think she's a bit miffed about you hiring IM? I know my community midwifes are very and no doubt a bit about them, and doulas too

Tbh I think the community mw is just a bit thick. I have a friend who has also now booked an IM cos she was fed up of her gettign stuff wrong (things like telling her she couldn't have her MatB1 form til 25 weeks when it's actually 20 weeks, telling her she can't go to x hospital if she wants a homebirth which the supervisor has said she can do).

I'm wondering if she's wrong about the forms being "assigned" to her personally - she made out that she was the only person who could sign them.

Lol, yes certainly sounds that way
I sent mine off a few days ago, and I'm sure the info' sheet said it didn't have to be a named midwife . Might be worth checking up and printing out from gov website?
Think we're in for a long wait for the reddies anyway from other threads...

I think it's more likely that these forms seem to be like golddust at the moment - have heard sooo many stories about people having trouble getting hold of one - maybe the community midwife is trying to keep them for her "community patients" iyswim.

Anyway, fret not, because they aren't paying out any time soon anyway - here's the conversation I had yesterday with the so-called "helpline"...

Me: Hello, I just listened to all your answerphone messages and I understand that there is a backlog in paying out the HIP grants, but I just wondered if there was any way I could check that you had actually received my claim form in the first place, even if it hasn't been paid yet.

Him: No there's not. Thank you for calling. Goodb....

Me: (interrupting) You see, I put the claim form in the post to you on March 2nd, and I see from the form that the claim is invalid if you don't receive it within 31 days of the date the midwife signed it, which was also March 2nd. So if you haven't received the form, I would need her to sign another one.

Him: That's correct, if we don't receive the form within 31 days of the midwife signing it, it's not valid.

Me: Yes, I know. That's why I am asking if there is a way to check if you've received it yet.

Him: When it's been processed and paid, then you'll get an acknowledgement.

Me: OK, but I am not asking if it's been processed and paid, just if there is a way to check if it's been received.

Him: Have you had an acknowledgement? (sounds surprised)

Me: No. But, you see, that's not what I'm asking. I know you haven't paid the claim yet, because there's a backlog, I get that. I just was trying to see if there was a way of telling if you have received it.

Him: If you haven't had an acknowledgement, then we haven't paid it. But you're free to call back at any time for an update.

Me: But, if I call back for an update, won't you just tell me the same thing as you're telling me now?

Him: Yes

Me: So I still won't know if you've received the form, or if the form has got lost in the post?

Him: No

Me: So do you have a better suggestion for how I can track the progress of my claim?

Him: Well, maybe phone back next week

Me: But I thought we just established that if I call back, you'll just tell me all the same stuff again?

Him: Yes, but next week the systems will be up and running

Me: Hang on, so you haven't even got the systems that will log and process the claims set up yet? You mean, the computer systems?

Him (sounding exasperated with me): YES

Me (feeling a bit weak and helpless): OK, thanks, bye.

verity what I am hoping is that they know they are so far behind they will wave the 31 day thing, going by post mark or such.

But I'm a dreamer!!

Comewhinewithme · 08/04/2009 19:50

My MW gave me mine but she did say that there was a massive delay in getting anymore .

BabyBaby123 · 08/04/2009 20:05

i'm getting worried they haven't recieved mine either. I would at least expect some kind of acknowledgment but have had nothing.
When are they actually going to start paying out? does anyone know?

mum09 · 18/04/2009 09:08

Has anyone actually had confirmation yet?
