Hello, I just thought I'd introduce myself. Very new to all this - only 7 weeks gone, I think. My first appt with MW still before me and I find things quite overwhelming at the moment. Would you be able to point me in the direction of a good book with all the answers a girl could possible need, please? I monitor MN, but find myself with just too many questons... Thank you!

could try what to expect while you're expecting, or the dorling kindersey fat one written by lesley regan (personally I preferred that one although more expensive as I foudn the american nature of what to expect to annoying) but in all honesty the boards here (esp antenatal one once it got going)was my best resource.

congratulations

I was going to say avoid 'What to expect when you're expecting' - many people find it very guilt-tripping and anxiety-inducing!

and obsessed wtih constipation -the dorling kindersey ones has lots of nice photos and is nicely informative whilst being qutie supportive about stuff you could/might be feeling etc

Hi. Congratulations!! I'm 19weeks now, and hav been reading "What to expect when you're expecting" and "Conception, pregnancy and birth" which is a Miriam Stoppard book. Personally, I find Miriam a bit glossy, and prefer what to expect.

Also, for a lighter take on everything (but still quite informative) "Confessions of a yummy mummy" which a colleague has recently leant me...perfect for a preg-novice like myself. Hope that helps! I'm sure lots of people who have more experience will be along soon though

I can't imagine how you'd find What to Expect guilt tripping. It's like being spoken to by a dotty but indulgent American aunt.... if anything it's a little 'oh have another cake dear and don't do anything taxing whatsoever, ever, because you're almost an invalid you know'.
You'd have to be a 14 ton, crystal meth smoking crack whore to get anything approaching approbrium from it.

Agree with Poppet - I found What to Expect pretty informative and it was probably the most useful book I bought.

(Just avoid the section on medical emergencies)

I bought this book : Your Pregnancy Week by Week by Lesley Regan. It's really good as being new to preggie state it answered all my questions and I still refer back to it at each stage - am 25weeks and has been the best book I have looked at - Amazon sell it as a good price.
