Homebirth - midwives home visit & what to expect!

Hi,
I'm 32+4 and thinking of a homebirth. The midwife wants to come tomorrow to do a home visit.
What actually happens at the home visit? The only reason i ask is that we are about to have a new kitchen fitted, so there is only a few appliances in there, half plastered walls etc. It will be completely finished at the end of next week. We're planning to stay/eat at my mum's while its all going on.
Do you think it matters? I just think that if the midwife has a box to tick, e.g. fully functioning kitchen then it may be worth her coming at a later date. DH doesn't think it should matter... any advice welcome!

The one we had was really to make sure we were aware of all of the issues about homebirths. This was mainly about my health/ health of baby etc I think she asked about hot water supply cos we were planning a home water birth and she looked at the pool (in its box) to check that was ok. Apart from that she didn't look anywhere in the house ! Main reason for her to come out was to check access to house if there was an ambulance needed and space for midwives to work in etc

no, i am pretty sure they just come to make sure access to your house is ok, and that the midwives won't die falling down holes in the floor and stuff like that.,
#and that the house isn't totally manky and dirty and stuff.

so you should be fine! I had a semi-completed driveway when I had mine and she didn't even mention it despite access being a bit precarious.
funny enough I am now pg with the next baby and the driveway still isn't finished

mostly they just want to talk to you about it all and how it's your responsibility and everytyhing that can go wrong and all that.

I had a homebirth with my first and don't even remember a home visit, only the initial booking visit when i was in the early stages, before i'd even decided on a home birth. You've still got a couple of months to go so i wouldn't worry - if she's that bothered she can come back nearer the time.

thanks very much, yes you are right she can always come back later.

I had this! Had a fab home birth last saturday, in a pool in our kitchen/diner. But said kitchen/diner is half-plastered, not painted, and has half the kitchen cabinets up and the rest lying in boxes in the hallway...at the home visit it was about an inch thick in plaster dust as the ceiling had just been taken down by the plasterers (I was a bit panicked about the timings....). Midwife didn't bat an eyelid thank goodness! (Though I think if she had come that night i might have gone into hospital after all...or at least had it upstairs in bed not in the pool!). I apologised for the mess and asked if she had to pass the house as suitably hygeinic, and she said no, just needed running water! It was mainly to talk through with me where I'd have it etc and check there was a loo and sink nearby etc.
