Could this be the start of SPD?

I am 18 weeks with DC3 and my hips/pelvis are aching like mad, worse when I have been walking/sleeping. Stairs seems like a really difficult task and this has been happening for about 10 days so far.

The pain feels like it is inside/muscular most of the time, but sometimes when it gets worse it feels like the actual bones are aching too.

Please please tell me I am being a woose and it is just general aches and pains, DSis had SPD last year and ended up on crutches

sounds like it could be spd. you won't necessarily end up on crutches though. get to the physio. get a support belt. start being really careful with the movements that you do.

and remember...it'll go away after the baby is born! (that's what i keep telling myself...only a few more weeks to go...)

Could be just normal aches and pains. Common complaints with SPD are pain standing on one leg (eg to put knickers on) and pain opening legs (eg getting out of the car). Even if it is SPD theres no reason to think you'll end up like your ds - it doesn't always get that bad. It may not get any worse and it may even go away. Cheer up!

Oh heck yes, I went out and bought more maternity jeans today and it was agony when I was stepping into jeans in the fitting rooms.

So what do I do about it, other than contact my MW for a physio appointment? Is there anything specific I shouldn't do?

This is quite a good website www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk/1152.html

Sounds like SPD. I had it with both my pgs.

Get referred to physio now as it can take a while for an appointment to come through. Agree with all the advice from herbietea esp shopping trollies and hoovering.

bratnav · 05/04/2009 21:12

Aaargh we will have a filthy house, DH is in hospital waiting for a hernia op, and he can't do hoovering either!

Will call MW tomorrow and see what the wait time is like for a physio appt. Thanks for the advice on satin pjs etc, would never have thought of that.

bratnav - do not just struggle on with this as my wife did. She really injured herself trying to walk. Get early help and push your GP to take it seriously. If it gets serious get yourself a wheelchair not just crutches.

I posted a few minutes ago about my wife experience. She stil suffers 7 years later. Not a common experience I admit but one worth avoiding.
